Feyenoord 0-2 Aston Villa result - Emiliano Buendia and John McGinn goals give Unai Emery's side valuable win

Second-half goals from Emiliano Buendia and skipper John McGinn gave Aston Villa a 2-0 victory following a testing evening in Rotterdam against Feyenoord.

Following back-to-back victories Unai Emery’s side arrived in the Netherlands with confidence, despite a slow start to their Premier League campaign.

They were dealt an early blow when goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez suffered an injury in the warm-up and late replacement Marco Bizot was brought in.

Feyenoord were seeking a victory after losing their opening game and thought they had a first-half opener, but Ayase Ueda’s header was controversially ruled out for a push.

Villa were much better in the second half and Buendia picked his spot with an elegant strike to put them ahead.

Emery’s side landed the killer blow 11 minutes from time with McGinn capitalising on a fortunate deflection following substitute Donyell Malen’s run into the box.

Villa have two wins from two in the UEFA Europa League and are back in Premier League action on Sunday when they host Burnley.

TNT Sports pundit Stiliyan Petrov said Marco Bizot had a "perfect" performance after coming in as a late replacement for Martinez this evening.

He said: "It's important at the moment for Villa to win games, without even producing great performances.

"I think the first half was more of Feyenoord rather than Villa, but staying in a game gives you an opportunity to score a goal and to go ahead. They've managed to do that.

"Bizot, I thought he was outstanding. He was outstanding tonight. I know he was a replacement for Martinez, but everything he was asked to do, he was perfect."

Following Villa's 2-0 victory, TNT Sports pundit Steve Sidwell said: "They’ve laid a foundation, a platform to build on.

"Yes, it has come for five, six games into the Premier League. Now it's here and the demand is set, especially for their manager and the experienced players in the squad.

"They go forward, they keep driving, picking up points, home and away. This will be huge for their confidence. It's so hard to win a way, especially at somewhere like here. It's been a fortress for Feyenoord."

Unai Emery will be proud of that second-half performance in probably their toughest game in this group phase.

Feyenoord were unbeaten at their own ground this season but goals from Buendia and McGinn ended that run.

The Villa manager has said something to the fourth official and booked for his dissent. Moments later Bizot is also carded for apparent time wasting.

A deep cross by Hadj Moussa into the Villa cross is headed down by Ueda to Sliti whose effort is denied at close-range by Bizot.

Villa are out of sight. Torres wins the ball outside his own box and finds Malen who turns his man.

Malen is crowded out by three players in the box but the ball deflects to McGinn to finish.
