Colombia 1-3 France result – Desire Doue’s double helps second-string Bleus to dominant victory in World Cup warm-up in Maryland

There are 48 teams at this year’s World Cup, and France’s second XI would beat most of them. Didier Deschamps made 11 changes to the team who beat Brazil on Thursday, yet Les Bleus were still too good for a strong Colombia side in Maryland.

Desire Doue scored twice, his first goals at international level, either side of a header from Marcus Thuram. Jaminton Campaz’s consolation goal did not change the story of France’s dominance. It was another statement, if one were needed, of their remarkable bench strength.

Doue, Paris Saint-Germain’s young star, put France ahead in the 29th minute with a drive that deflected in off Daniel Munoz. Thuram added the second shortly before half-time with a towering header from Maghnes Akliouche’s inviting cross.

Munoz missed a good chance to pull one back for Colombia, who were punished when Doue swept home his second in the 56th minute at the end of a clinical counter-attack.

Colombia substitute Campaz scored his first goal for his country to make the scoreline more respectable, blasting into the corner from Jefferson Lerma’s layoff.

Kylian Mbappe, who is one short of Olivier Giroud’s France goalscoring record, came on for a late cameo and had a goal disallowed for offside in injury time. He will have to break the record at the World Cup instead.

The Premier League returns to our screens next weekend, and it is set to be a thrilling final surge of the season.

An excellent win for a second-string France side.

Mbappe runs onto a through pass and strolls round the keeper to score - only for the offside flag to go up.

Lerma's shot is blocked, then Campaz's cross-shot is punched away by Samba. France break devastatingly and Ekitike drives just wide.

He plays a nice give-and-go with Digne before clipping a shot into the side netting at the near post. Looks like he'll have to wait to equal Olivier Giroud's goalscoring record.

And why not.

Colombia had a good spell after Campaz's goal, putting France under sustained pressure, but it looks like that has petered out.

Ekitike charges through on goal and tries to go round Montero, who dives at his feet to push the ball away. Mbappe collects the rebound on the left of the area and goes past Montero, but his cross-shot is cleared off the line by Machado.

All of a sudden France look a bit rattled. A big inswinging corner from Quintero is touched over the bar by Brice Samba. I think Quintero was going for goal there.

The main man is on. Kylian Mbappe and Michael Olise have replaced Cherki and Thuram.

Colombia get one back! Cordoba's shot is blocked but the loose ball is laid off by Lerma to the overlapping Campaz, who hammers it into the far corner.

Camavinga is booked.

And Kylian Mbappe is warming up.

All those substitutions have affected the flow of the game. Hopefully it will pick up again after the players take a drinks break.

A nice turn and shot from Cordoba on the edge of the area, but there isn't enough power in the shot and Samba saves comfortably.

Ekitike zips into the area from the left and drives a low cross-shot from a tight angle. Montero holds on to his left.

Kolo Muani, Ekitike and Camavinga replace Doue, Zaire-Emery and Akliouche.

Machado, Campaz and Quintero for Mojica, James Rodriguez and Luis Diaz.
