England 1-0 New Zealand result - Harry Kane header gives Three Lions victory in penultimate World Cup warm-up match in Tampa

Harry Kane scored his 79th goal for England to give the Three Lions a merited 1-0 win over New Zealand in their penultimate World Cup warm-up match in Tampa.

Thomas Tuchel's side predictably dominated large swathes of the contest against the world's 85th ranked side, but were forced to settle for only one goal when the captain nodded home Djed Spence's cross in the last action of the first half.

As promised before the match, Tuchel changed the entire side in the second half with Liverpool teenager Rio Ngumoha, who is only on the standby list, a real bright spark with his appetite to attack in the draining Florida heat.

England move onto a match with Costa Rica in Orlando on Wednesday night for their final friendly before they open their campaign against Group L opponents Croatia in Dallas a week on Wednesday.

Ghana (June 23, Foxborough) and Panama (June 27, New Jersey) are England's other opponents in a section they are expected to win.

Meanwhile, Tuchel has confirmed the Arsenal quartet of Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke have joined the squad and will be available to face Costa Rica.

"We are going to have to manage the game well at times," said the Real Madrid midfielder on ITV.

"We want to play that full force, high pressing, high tempo football which is difficult in the heat and with the pitches.

"Both sets of players made a great effort to get out of the game what we had to do before the tournament so we are pleased.

"I'm feeling good off the back of a tough season with a couple of injuries for the first time in my career.

"I feel strong, I feel better than I did at the start of the season. I'm feeling excited and ready."

James and Ngumoha linking up well. Ngumoha has certainly been a bright spark for England. And the final whistle sounds in Tampa to signal a 1-0 win for the Three Lions. 28,000 fans turned up, and go away with hope in their hearts. Harry Kane's header makes the difference.

Konsa seemed to get his toe stuck in a bit of the grass on this dubious pitch. But seems to be fine before Toney is offside as he fails to convert the James cross.

Heading for four added minutes. Not sure why that is required, but there we are. Three apparently for the hydration break.

Unless there is a dramatic ending to this match, it has been a decent day's work for England in the Florida heat. No real need to warm up out there, but finding some cohesion is the key to the exercise.

Certainly got hold of the shot from distance, but straight into the arms of replacement goalkeeper Paulsen.

At least five of them for what is surely only going to be another five or six minutes of action.

Shows plenty of pace and purpose as he cuts in from out wide, but the finish is thumped well over the bar. It remains 1-0 to the Three Lions.

That match is due on Wednesday night, the final match before the Three Lions face their tournament opener against Croatia in Group L a week on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Dan Burn wriggles free in the box, but somehow his header is knocked away in stages by New Zealand. Toney then just failing to get on end of an Ngumoha delivery.

Three Lions with 70% of the ball, and 19 shots at the opposition goal, but only that Harry Kane header to show for their efforts so far. These results really don't matter in the bigger picture. But still, wouldn't want to ship a goal in closing moments.

Despite being outplayed and outclassed, New Zealand remain only one goal behind against the Three Lions. Which is something of a minor miracle, it must be said.

Width is the key and pace of movement in the final third. Anderson drills an effort at goal, but straight into the body of Toney. And that will be the time for more drinks in Tampa. Anybody fancy an ice jacket or cooling vest?

Marko Stamenic needs a look for possible concussion, but is good to continue before Randall lifts a cross straight out of play.
