France 1-2 Cote d’Ivoire result - Guela Doue and Amad Diallo's goals shock Les Bleus in 2026 World Cup warm-up match

Cote d’Ivoire came from behind to beat France for the first time in their history in a tightly contested World Cup warm-up game in Nantes.

After a quiet start to the game, where the hosts dominated possession, the game sprang to life towards the end of the first half as Elye Wahi nearly opened the scoring but was prevented by a top save from Mike Maignan.

Just before half-time, Les Bleus broke the deadlock through Rayan Cherki as he showed superb close control on the edge of the box to dribble past two defenders before firing a sweet strike on his right foot into the bottom corner.

Both sides made several changes at the break, which particularly impacted Didier Deschamps' side, as they lost a lot of their attacking fluidity in the second period.

The Elephants equalised with less than 10 minutes played of the second half when a through ball was played from midfield into the path of Guela Doue, who was one-on-one against the French goalkeeper and buried his shot.  

The goal was also rather significant as Guela Doue scored against his brother Desire Doue, who watched from the French bench.

The second half offered very few chances for either side until Amad Diallo gave the visitors the lead just after the 80th minute.

Guela Doue was once again involved in the second goal as he played a dangerous cross into the box which was met by the Manchester United winger, who placed a tidy finish into the bottom corner to shock the home side.

France have one more World Cup warm-up game against Northern Ireland on Monday night, and they will look to secure a more positive performance and result ahead of their campaign.

Cote d’Ivoire’s next game will be their World Cup opener against Ecuador in Philadelphia on June 15.

Mateta plays the ball into Magnes Akliouche in space on the right side of the box, before he tries to power a shot but his effort is straight at the keeper and comfortably pushed away.

The fluidity of the game has slowed down since the various substitutions for both sides, but Côte d’Ivoire will be pleased with the solidity they have shown this half to neutralise France's potent attack.

Bazoumana Touré, Parfait Guiagon et Christ Inao Oulaï come on for Elye Wahi, Yan Diomande and Franck Kessie.

Jules Kounde and Adrien Rabiot come off for Malo Gusto and Manu Kone.

Since the goal, the game has become far more even with France not threatening the visitors' defence as much as in the first half. Les Bleus have not been able to get the ball to their attacking players enough in this second half.
