Germany 2-1 Ghana result – Deniz Undav scores late winner after Abdul Fatawu had cancelled out Kai Havertz opener

Deniz Undav staked his claim for a place in Germany’s World Cup squad as he netted a late winner in a 2-1 friendly victory over Ghana.

The Stuttgart forward struck in the 88th minute at MHPArena - his home ground - to cancel out Abdul Fatawu’s equaliser.

Germany were wasteful on Monday, with Nick Woltemade slicing wide early on before Florian Wirtz hit the post and saw a goal disallowed for offside.

However, a penalty on the stroke of half-time from Kai Havertz broke the deadlock.

Ghana rallied in the second period, with Fatawu scoring just after coming on from the bench, with Woltemade having hit the crossbar at the other end.

The impressive Lennart Karl squandered a great chance in the 85th minute, but Undav had the final say as he prodded in from point-blank range to ensure victory for Julian Nagelsmann’s team.

A winning start to what Germany will hope proves to be a glorious 2026.

They face Finland and the United States in their final friendlies before the World Cup.

It's that man Undav, on his first cap in over a year, who has staked his claim for a place in Germany's World Cup squad with an excellent close-range finish.

Sane's header fell into his path, and Stuttgart's Undav just managed to take it under his spell before prodding a shot into the roof of the net.

Oh, that should have been the moment for the youngster!

Goretzka played it to his club-mate, who was in plenty of space in the area, but his first touch just takes it away from him, and he can only prod an attempt wide.

Scholtterbeck becomes the first Germany player to pick up a yellow card.

The hosts have been positive in attack but their profligacy in front of goal has come back to bite them.

And with Nagelsmann making plenty of changes, the performance has become a bit stuttered. Ghana may well think they can snatch something, here!

Talk about an instant impact! The Black Stars are level, and it's that man Fatawu – only just on as a sub – who has got it.

Germany have missed chance after chance, and Ghana have made them pay. Kohn stayed onside down the left and drove to the byline before laying it back for Fatawu, who tucked home into an gaping right-hand corner.
