Spain were held to a goalless draw by 10-man Egypt in their penultimate World Cup warm-up match.

Alex Grimaldo struck the crossbar as the European champions were unable to break down their African opponents, who had Hamdi Fathy sent off late on.

Luis de la Fuente named a much-changed Spanish side, who struggled to threaten the Egypt goal during the first half.

The Pharoahs, who were seeking their first win over Spain, went close when Omar Marmoush rattled the post in the 29th minute.

The half-time introductions of Fermin Lopez and Pedri provided a much-needed spark for the hosts, and both players called goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir into action before the hour mark.

Cristhian Mosquera narrowly headed over on his first international start, before Egypt were reduced to 10 men four minutes from time; Fathy receiving a second yellow card after a rash challenge on Borja Iglesias.

Grimaldo hit the crossbar from the resulting free-kick, but the 10-man visitors held on for a share of the spoils.

Despite 25 shots on goal and an xG of 2.38, Spain were unable to break down Egypt, who played the final few minutes with 10 men.

Luis de la Fuente made 10 changes from Friday's 3-0 win over Serbia, and La Roja struggled to truly threaten during the first half. In fact, it was their opponents who went closest to scoring, with Marmoush hitting the post.

The hosts' attacking threat certainly improved after the break, as Fermin and Pedri went close and Grimaldo's free-kick rattled the crossbar.

Yet, the breakthrough ultimately eluded Spain for the first time since a goalless draw with Serbia in September 2024, ending a run of finding the net in 16 successive matches.

The ball sits up nicely in the box for Fermin, who goes for a spectacular overhead kick.

Yet, Ibrahim is well-placed to deflect his effort behind for a corner.

Spain push for a stoppage-time winner as Pino fires the ball across the six-yard box, but Ibrahim is there to clear for the visitors.

He can have no complaints whatsoever at receiving a second yellow card.

Ibrahim sarcastically applauds the referee's decision, and is also shown a yellow card.

Saber comes on for the visitors in place of Zizo.

Iglesias spots Shobeir off his line and attempts an audacious chip from a tight angle.

However, it just lands the wrong side of the crossbar, though he may have been flagged offside anyway.

After Rodri drills wide from distance, Spain continue to threaten.

The ball is cut back from the right byline, but Pino cannot react quickly enough to connect.

Barrenetxea is given a well-earned rest after working hard on his senior international debut.

Pino replaces him for the final 17 minutes.
