RUTHLESS BARCELONA SMASH THREE PAST MALLORCA TO GO FOUR POINTS CLEAR

A spellbinding second half performance by Barcelona ripped through a Mallorca side who had started confidently and made real chances in the first. A wonder goal from Lamine Yamal on the hour killed off any islander’s hopes after Robert Lewandowski had opened the scoring 30 minutes earlier from close range. Marc Bernal made it three and finished things off on 83 minutes.
Despite dominating possession in the first half, Barcelona looked the less dangerous in front of goal. At least until they scored.
Mallorca, on the rare occasions they had the ball, were able to cut through the Barca defence like a hot knife through butter. Pablo Torre and Jan Virgili linked up well, looking to thread in their team's top scorer, Vedat Muriqi. The 31 year-old was a fraction of a second, or millimeter of a stretch away from opening the scoring in the 17th minute,
But it was the home side who made it count when a 28th minute shot from Rashford bounced through to Lewandowski. The veteran Pole was composure personified, taking two touches to position the ball where he wanted it before burying it in the back of the net.
Lamine Yamal ought to have doubled the deficit just before half time. Played in by Kounde at the far post, following a Rashford free kick, the youngster somehow conspired to slice the ball wide with the goal gaping.
He made up for that miss in the second half, however. With Barcelona dominating  every dimension of the match, and Mallorca tiring, the wunderkind took advantage of the extra space to curl a magnificent shot in from 25 yards.
The visitors managed to force a couple of late efforts on goal but never looked like coming back. When Barca substitute Marc Bernal broke through the midfield on 83 minutes, as much work as he still had to do, there was only going to be one outcome.
The result puts Barcelona four points clear at the top of La Liga, with Real Madrid playing Valencia late on Sunday.

MOJICA: IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP LAMINE WHEN YOU'RE TIRED

We played well until the first goal, but you can't let teams like Barca off the hook. It's so difficult to play here but we had clear chances in the first half. I think it was a close game - we had clear chances that we should have scored, but I think we need to value the commitment shown by the team. At the same time we need to be self-critical and see where we need to improve.
We could see that you can hurt Barca with long balls onto the wings, the secondary runs. We didn't put the chances away and conceded chances that we could have probably avoided, then you start getting tired. It's almost impossible to stop Lamine when you're tired. I had him on my wing but when he cuts infield he's got that ability to play a pass or score a goal.

AND THAT'S IT

One last chance of a consolation goes begging, before the referee calls a halt. Mallorca weren't bad, whether as individuals or a team, but they were just no match for Barcelona's singular and collective brilliance.

A DOMINANT VICTORY FROM BARCELONA

And really it has been all about the second half, in which they extinguished all Mallorcan hopes.

POWERFUL RUN AND STRIKE FROM ANTONIO SANCHEZ

It's caught by Joan Garcia. That's only Mallorca's second chance of any sort of the half.

GOAL! BARCELONA 3 - 0 MALLORCA (BERNAL)

Bernal bursts through, receiving the ball from Ferran not far into the Mallorca half and has so much still to do. He kept his composure, let Mallorca lose their heads around him and slots home to wrap this one up for the hosts.

ANTONIO SANCHEZ BREAKS CLEAR

Gifted the ball from Barcelona, he runs at the ball and cracks off a chest-high shot from distance. Garcia is good for it, however, and palms it out to safety. That's the only shot of any sort Mallorca have had in this half.

LAMINE LOOKS FOR THE TOP LEFT

He curls it so quickly towards the corner but it's just wide of goal. There was no way of knowing it was missing until it had whistled by, that's how close it was.

NICE FOOTWORK FROM THE BARCA KEEPER

Heart in mouth stuff for a moment by Joan Garcia but it worked, and before you knew it the home side were rampaging up the other end.

GOAL! BARCELONA 2 - 0 MALLORCA (LAMINE)

Cometh the hour! Pure magic from the man of the season. Olmo just lays it off to him 25 yards out where his vision for goal and ability to find it is unmatchable. The keeper is left rooted to the spot and the right-foot shot lands to his left.

BARCELONA TOYING WITH MALLORCA NOW

But still haven't found the key to opening up their defence. Casado lofts the ball over in the direction of Lamine, but Mojica sees it first.

OLMO LOOKS UP AND GOES LONG

But sends it straight down the middle and down the throat of the goalkeeper. He's already been tested a bit more this half than the first.

LAMINE YAMAL WITH A GOOD CASE FOR A PENALTY

He runs mazily into the box and there certainly contact with Mojica, but the referee had the best possible view and was confident in his decision. That's the first time Lamine has really gone up against the Colombian one v one.
