Barcelona confirm signing of Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund on five-year deal, reuniting with Hansi Flick

Karim Adeyemi has completed his transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona, the Catalan club announced on Thursday. The Germany international becomes Hansi Flick's second signing of the summer, following the arrival of Anthony Gordon.

Adeyemi leaves Germany after four seasons at Dortmund, during which time the Bundesliga side reached the UEFA Champions League final, losing to Real Madrid in 2024.
Barcelona head coach Flick knows the forward well, having given him his international debut when he was in charge of Germany.
Barcelona said that the 24-year-old has signed a five-year contract after moving to the club, which runs until June 30, 2031.
"I'd like to thank Borussia Dortmund for four great years," Adeyemi said. "To the club, my players, and the fans, who made every game special with their support. I wish BVB all the best for the future."
Adeyemi bolsters Barca's attacking options after veteran striker Robert Lewandowski left the club at the end of last season.
The Catalan giants will be targeting not only the retention of their La Liga title, but a long Champions League run, with live coverage to come of that competition throughout the 2026/27 season on TNT Sports and HBO Max.
Adeyemi joins Barcelona from Dortmund having made 98 appearances in the league for the Bundesliga side, scoring 23 goals.
He has also made 37 appearances in the Champions League - including two against Barcelona last season - in which he's scored 12 times.
Following the arrival of Adeyemi and Gordon, Barcelona's attacking line-up now looks potentially extremely threatening, with Lamine Yamal and Raphinha already in Catalonia.
After a few seasons of underperformance, they now look like the most complete side in Spain, with rivals Real Madrid rebuilding under Jose Mourinho.
However, there was still an element of "surprise" at the deal for Adeyemi, as explained by Guillermo Marcos from Eurosport Spain.
"The signing of Adeyemi has come as a surprise in Spain," Marcos said. "Just like with Gordon, his name hadn't been mentioned in the media until shortly before the deal was finalised, making it completely unexpected."

Tom Mueller of Eurosport Germany has also had his say on the deal.
"I think [calling it] surprising is about right," Mueller said. "It’s always questionable when a player who hasn’t established himself at a club like Dortmund and has had inconsistent performances moves to an even bigger club.
"However, Adeyemi was at a dead end at Dortmund, so leaving definitely made sense. He has huge potential - maybe Hansi Flick can help him reach his full potential."
