Crystal Palace 1-1 Nottingham Forest: Murillo equaliser cancels out Eberechi Eze penalty in Champions League blow for Forest

Nottingham Forest dropped two crucial points on the road against Crystal Palace as they slipped up in the chase for a spot in next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Eberechi Eze and Murillo found the target within five minutes of one another as the points were shared in a tight game at Selhurst Park.

The first half did not produce much, with the only real chances coming through Daniel Munoz, who had a first-time shot saved by Matz Sels, and Anthony Elanga, who also had an effort denied just before the break.

Five minutes into the second half, Ismaila Sarr was denied from point-blank range by the brilliant Sels - who is leading the Golden Glove charts with 13 clean sheets - and just seconds later, Forest produced a massive chance of their own, down the other end.

Chris Wood picked up the ball in the box, but his shot deflected wide after a crucial defensive touch from Maxence Lacroix.

On the hour mark, Sels uncharacteristically tripped Tyrick Mitchell in the box and, after a VAR check, the penalty was awarded. Eze made no mistake in converting as he powered the ball to the right of the goalkeeper.

But Forest hit back just five minutes later, when Neco Williams’ strike clipped the feet of Murillo and ricocheted into the net.

Eze came close to snatching all three points in the final moments, but his strike from 25 yards rattled the crossbar.

The result leaves Forest in sixth place on 61 points, two shy of Newcastle United and Chelsea in fourth and fifth place respectively, with three games to play.
