Man City 3-1 Chelsea: Erling Haaland and Phil Foden seal comeback win as Pep Guardiola's side move fourth in table

Manchester City continued their recent revival with a rousing 3-1 comeback win over Chelsea at the Etihad to move up to fourth place in the Premier League table.

City's new signing Abdukodir Khusanov endured a torrid debut as his short headed backpass enabled Nicolas Jackson to square for Noni Madueke to tap home for Chelsea on three minutes before the 20-year-old defender was booked a minute later for a late challenge on Cole Palmer.

But City rallied strongly from the shock of such a poor start as Josko Gvardiol fired them level on 42 minutes before John Stones replaced the unfortunate former Lens defender Khusanov early in the second period.

The home side were on top and secured the three points when Erling Haaland latched onto a long pass from Ederson on 68 minutes to chip the ball over a hesitant Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, who was badly at fault and punished for his starting position.

Phil Foden secured the win when he raced onto a lovely ball from Haaland to slam the finish into the visiting side's net on 87 minutes.

City have now won four of their past five league matches and move above Newcastle United on goal difference before facing Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool in their next three outings.

Chelsea drop to sixth spot, a point behind City and Newcastle after failing to capitalise on a vibrant start.

"I think it was overall a great performance even though we started horrific. It was a fantastic team performance, and I am really happy," the Norway striker told the BBC.

"When we had the start like we did it is difficult, but we played really well and we kept on going and kept on going.

"We kept pushing and second half was the same. In the end, it is what we need to do. We need to lock it in the back and keep going attacking-wise.

A few Chelsea fans have seen enough as they head for the exit doors. That Foden goal has surely put this one to bed.

And that is surely game, set and match as Haaland picks out Foden on the run with a supreme pass. Races through on goal to slip the ball home. Lovely move, lovely goal. Four wins and a draw in their past five matches. Much more like the City of old.

Has been quite a frantic night for the home fans. After that brutal start to the evening, City have recovered fairly well and are good for their lead.

Which is easier said than done when you consider what befell them in Paris the other night. Mateo Kovacic has been booked for a late one on Palmer. Chelsea weigh up options from the free-kick, but the chip by Palmer is easy enough for the home side to clear.

Enzo Fernandez is fouled by Bernardo Silva, who collects a yellow card for his troubles.

Would move above Newcastle on goal difference in the Premier League. Which doesn't sound great for the champions, but is half decent given their recent returns this season.

Chelsea goalkeeper Sazchez caught well out of his goal. Was going to the ball, then went backwards. But too late as Haaland chips the ball over him for a 2-1 lead. What was the goalie doing?

That is not a bad effort. Picked out by Haaland on the run, but his fizzing shot is a bit too high in the end. It remains delicately poised at 1-1.

Which might well suit Chelsea after a breathless first half. Game has slowed down. Pep with the pointing finger. He wants more from his team.

Their next three Premier League games are against Newcastle, Arsenal and Liverpool. Would dearly love to embark upon them with a win this evening.
