Manchester United and Manchester City have both been linked with a move for Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim, while Real Madrid may hold off on any move for Trent Alexander-Arnold until the summer transfer window. Elsewhere, Real and United are both keen on Sunderland’s teenage star Chris Rigg, and Graham Potter did not get an interview for the England job.

Manchester clubs track Sporting boss
Manchester City and Manchester United are both tracking Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim.
The two clubs could be in the market for a new manager with the future of Pep Guardiola at City and Erik ten Hag at United under question.
The Express states: “The Red Devils' local rivals, Manchester City, are also understood to be keen on Amorim as Pep Guardiola weighs up whether to draw a line under his stint at the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season.
“Amorim, 39, has established himself as one of Europe's most exciting young coaches. And with Sporting director of football Hugo Viana bound for City at the end of this season, rumours are already circulating that the Portuguese may follow him.
“United have placed Amorim on their hit list in preparation for [Erik] Ten Hag's possible departure. The Dutchman is being given more time to turn things around at Old Trafford despite overseeing a miserable start to the season.”
Real to wait to sign right-back
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti does not think that the club will buy a replacement for Dani Carvajal this winter.
The Spanish right-back suffered a serious knee injury, which has led to speculation they would move for Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The Evening Standard writes: “Carlo Ancelotti has suggested Real Madrid will not go into the January transfer market to replace the injured Dani Carvajal.
“Carvajal has been ruled out for the rest of this season after suffering a serious knee injury during Real’s 2-0 win over Villarreal.
“The Spanish giants have been heavily linked with a move for Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is out of contract at Anfield in the summer.
“But when asked about how he could replace Carvajal, Real boss Ancelotti said: ‘We have Lucas Vazquez, we trust him. Then there’s Eder Militao. I see him well as a right back, yes.
“'I have not asked for new signings in January as last year we managed the situation well. Signing a player who will be good for Real Madrid is not easy. At the moment we are not thinking about it.’”
Rigg scouted by huge clubs
Chris Rigg has been scouted by Real Madrid, Manchester United and Newcastle United, according to the Mirror.
The Sunderland teenager is being tracked by a host of top European clubs after breaking into the first team at the Stadium of Light.
The Mirror reports of his progress that “he wants to follow the example of Sunderland academy product Jordan Henderson and win it all.
“Career landmarks, and age records, are coming early for Sunderland’s goalscoring midfielder, England’s U18 captain and a teenager scouted by Real Madrid, Manchester United and Newcastle. So young that he would get the bus from Hebburn Comp to the Academy of Light after GCSE lessons to play in first-team training.
“In January last year, at 15 and 203 days, he became Sunderland’s second-youngest player in history. In August last year, just after turning 16, he scored in the EFL Cup against Crewe and became the club’s youngest-ever goalscorer and the youngest in the competition’s history. A month later he scored his first Championship goal against Southampton, earning the accolade of youngest-ever league scorer.”
Potter not interviewed for England job
Graham Potter, as well as Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, was not interviewed to replace Gareth Southgate as England coach.
The former Chelsea boss was beaten by another Stamford Bridge figurehead, Thomas Tuchel, instead.
The Sun reports: “Graham Potter has joined Eddie Howe on the list of managers snubbed from the England job.
“Former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was named as Gareth Southgate's permanent successor and will take over from Lee Carsley.
“Tuchel, 51, will become the third foreigner to lead The Three Lions as he follows in the footsteps of Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.
“Howe revealed that the FA did not approach him to interview for the job.
“This is despite ten different candidates being interviewed for the role, including some English managers.
“However, one name that was not on that list was former Blues boss Potter.”
