Andy Robertson to leave Liverpool at end of the season - 'Time to have the emotional farewell'

Liverpool defender Andy Robertson has confirmed that he will leave the club at the end of the current campaign. The Scotland international has spent almost a decade at Anfield but says he is expecting an "emotional farewell" from Merseyside. The full-back becomes the second player to confirm his Liverpool exit, with Mohamed Salah also departing on a free transfer this summer.

Andy Robertson has confirmed that he will leave Liverpool at the end of the season.

Robertson has been with the Anfield giants since 2017, helping the club to a host of major honours over the past nine years.

The Scotland defender told the club's website: "I think now's the time for me to move on. The nine years I'll look back on with a big smile on my face.

"I just think it’s better being out in the open, that now I can fully focus on the team from now until the end of the season.

"I think it’s important that I do that, I’ve always done that. But the time to have the emotional farewell and tell the fans and the people connected to this club what they mean to me, that will come closer to the end.

"I don’t think I’m quite ready for that yet. It’s just to try to get it out there so I can now be open and honest with everyone."

In Robertson's time, Liverpool have won two Premier League titles - under Jurgen Klopp in 2020 and Arne Slot in 2025 - the first of them being the club's first league success for 30 years.

They also won the UEFA Champions League in 2019 and, in more recent times, two Carabao Cups and an FA Cup.

"It’s never easy leaving a club like Liverpool, it has been a huge part of mine and my family’s life for the last nine years," Robertson added.

"But for me, players move on, other people move on – the thing that stays the same is the club and obviously the fans.

"I’ve had an amazing nine years here. Look, I think it has been well-documented, especially over the last year or so, I’ve had opportunities to leave and I’ve not taken them because of how difficult it is to leave this club. And I wouldn’t change that for the world.

"But I know football moves on, I know teams move on and I think now is the time for me to move on and go wherever my next move is and wherever my career takes me.

"I’ll always look back on amazing memories at this football club, I’ve put my heart and soul into the club for nine years and I’ve not got many regrets.

"I’ve grown as a man and as a person. This club will always mean the world to me, the fans will mean the world to me. It has been a hell of a journey."

Robertson has found his first-team opportunities limited this season with the arrival of Hungarian left-back Milos Kerkez, who joined from Bournemouth last year for £40 million.

Liverpool have had a frustrating season all round. They are currently in fifth place in the Premier League, were knocked out of the Emirates FA Cup by Manchester City last weekend and lost the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final 2-0 to Paris Saint-Germain.

Slot's team now face two vital home games in the coming days, against Fulham in the league on Saturday and PSG in the second leg of their Champions League clash on Tuesday.
