Ally McCoist relishes Bernd Leno's world-class save in Brentford's 0-0 draw with Fulham - 'Save of the season!'

Ally McCoist was full of praise for Fulham goalkeeper Bernd Leno after the German pulled off a clutch stop in Saturday's 0-0 West London Derby draw with Brentford.

Fulham made the short trip to the Gtech Community Stadium for Saturday's early kick-off as the capital pair sought to boost their European chances.

The Whites and their west London rivals Brentford were separated by just three points heading into the weekend's clash.

However, both sides put on a laborious display in a stalemate where chances were few and far between.

Bees shotstopper Caoimhin Kelleher successfully made a second-half Cruyff turn to bamboozle Fulham hitman Rodrigo Muniz, while Keith Andrews' succulent touch for a high ball were the stand-out highlights as the clock ticked slowly towards the 90-minute mark.

And it wasn't until the dying embers of the capital clash that the moment of the match came about as Leno made what McCoist dubbed the "save of the season".

Dango Ouattara connected perfectly with Keane Lewis-Potter's low cross from the left for what seemed a certain goal.

Leno, though, was equal to Ouattara's effort, pulling off a superb point-blank stop to ensure Fulham returned to Putney with a share of the spoils.

"That's a world-class save from Leno," TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher enthused.

"What a save," McCoist continued. "I'm telling you, it's one of the saves of the season. Simple as that."

And after watching the highlight, the TNT Sports co-commentator added: "What a save. It's his left arm he sticks up."

Fletcher dubbed the stop "brilliant" before McCoist stated: "That's exactly what it is. Brilliant.

"That could be a Man of the Match save."

Unsurprisingly, McCoist went on to name the 34-year-old his Man of the Match following the stalemate.

'Unbelievable save'

Speaking after the match on the save, Leno said: "These last moments in the last minute of the game are always the best.

"It was a difficult ball. First moment, I was not even sure if the ball was in or not and when I saw all my mates came over to me, it was a good moment.

"It was important for us because I think we deserved a point today."

Centre-back Joachim Andersen was also asked about the save in question. "Unbelievable save," the Dane began.

"I think it was me who lost the ball, so I'm thankful for him. That's what Leno does. He's saved us on numerous occasions. Important to make the save.

"Today was a good point [as] I don't think we played amazing today"
