Cole Palmer: Chelsea star responds to outside noise after netting historic hat-trick at Wolves - ‘Everyone loves to chat s***’

Chelsea forward Cole Palmer grabbed a hat-trick for his side in their 3-1 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Saturday afternoon. The victory kept Chelsea in fifth place in the Premier League, and after the match, Palmer said he was able to ignore critics and speculation, while his head coach Liam Rosenior praised both the England forward and the rest of his players.

Chelsea forward Cole Palmer said he was ignoring speculation after recent reports claimed he could move to Manchester United, and he believes he can improve when fully fit.

Palmer scored a hat-trick to secure a 3-1 win for Chelsea at Molineux, keeping his side in fifth place in the Premier League, regardless of a potential Liverpool win against Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.

After a difficult season, blighted by a groin problem, Palmer said: "It felt good to score some goals and get three points."

Asked if he was fully fit, he added: "I don't think just yet. People don't know what goes on behind the scenes, but being injured the whole season is not ideal, and when I'm not able to perform as I want to, and still dealing with an injury.

"Hopefully I can get over the injury soon by managing it, because I know what level I can provide when I feel 100% fit."

Palmer continued: "Not being at full fitness is not ideal, but I still feel like I can help the team, but when I get back to full fitness I feel like I can go to another level."

After Liam Rosenior replaced Enzo Maresca at the turn of the year, Chelsea have had four consecutive Premier League victories. Palmer praised the influence of the new Stamford Bridge head coach, saying that he had given more freedom to the players, and that he expected to improve further.

He explained: "Life under Liam is amazing.  He gives us all confidence to be ourselves, playing free. I'm sure when I'm proper fit, you'll see the best of me."

Palmer changed up his trademark celebration, miming covering up his ears, which he appeared to suggest was a rebuke to critics this season, and potentially regarding a mooted summer move to Manchester United.

"Everyone loves to chat s*** don't they?" he observed. "I don't pay attention to it. You see things, but I come from a strong place anyway, but I don't pay attention to it."

'Unstoppable' - Rosenior thrilled with Palmer

Chelsea boss Rosenior praised his side, and picked out Palmer for particular praise, declaring him "unstoppable".

He said: "We changed the system a little bit for the first time and the players, to put that into practice in the first half the way that they did, were excellent.

"Some of our passages of play – obviously Cole gets the three goals – but some of our football was everything I want to see.

"Cole was a part of that and we know what a world-class player he is. He's played a lot of football over the last year with not much rest, but when he's at his best, he's unstoppable. I'm delighted to be working with him.

"When Cole is fully fit, fully firing, feeling good, he's a magnificent footballer.
When you're at a club like this club, with its huge demands and scrutiny – which I'm starting to learn myself – you have to block out the noise and remember what a good player you are.

"I love working with him, he loves being here, and hopefully he can really enjoy his football between now and the end of the season, because it will help us on the pitch."
