Cole Palmer laughs off Chelsea exit rumours amid links to Manchester United - 'No plans to move'

It has been speculated that the former Manchester City player could push for a return to his home city despite his Chelsea contract running until 2033.

Palmer has excelled since joining The Blues in 2023, becoming a talismanic figure for a youthful side, and he is adamant that his long-term future will be at Stamford Bridge.

”Everyone just talks,” he told The Guardian. ”When I see it I just laugh. Obviously Manchester is my home. All my family are there, but I don’t miss it. Maybe I’ll miss it if I don’t go for three months or something. But then when I get home I think there’s nothing there for me anyway.

”I’ve got no plans to move from Chelsea. We’ve still got a lot to play for. We’ve got the FA Cup semi-final [against Leeds] and if we finish in a Champions League spot it puts us in a good position to sign players that we need.

"We spoke to the owners and they’re sure of the players that are gonna do it. Reece [James] won’t sign a six-year contract if he’s not spoken to the owners and the directors.

”Me and Reece spoke a lot. About things we need, players we need to sign and how things need to be. He wouldn’t sign a new contract if he didn’t know what was going on.”

Palmer has outlined his confidence in Chelsea's future plans despite a difficult start to life at the club for new head coach Liam Rosenior.

His inexperienced team were beaten 8-2 on aggregate in their UEFA Champions League last 16 tie against European champions Paris Saint-Germain, before a run of three successive Premier League defeats saw them lose ground in the race for a top five finish.

As it stands, Chelsea will be playing in the UEFA Europa League next season.

”It’s something we’re working on together,” Palmer said. ”We’re on the same page. We want to win now and I think if we add right in the summer we can compete for serious trophies next season. I don’t think we’re far off.

"If you sign the right players in the right positions and the right characters and profiles, I think we have more than enough quality to compete and be more consistent than we’ve shown over this season.

”Bringing a manager in mid-season, you have no pre-season, hardly have time to train. You’re just focusing on games. But the manager is good and when he has a proper pre-season and gets his ideas across properly and the way he wants to play he’s a top coach.

"If we as players perform to how we should be performing and we get the right players we can, him and us as a group, do some work.”

Palmer has not hit the heights of the previous two seasons in 2025/26, hindered by injuries and dips in form, but he is determined to end strongly with the World Cup on the horizon.

”It’s just about finding rhythm and performing again," he said. "Because I performed when I first got here. Last season I scored 14 Premier League goals in 20 games. Then the Club World Cup. It’s not just going to disappear. I’ve not lost all my ability. I’ve been injured.

”It’s just about focusing on these last few weeks. Get back to myself that I know pretty well. Work hard and hopefully go away with England.”
