The Manchester City fan captured drinking from an Arsenal-branded water bottle during a 3-0 victory over Chelsea in April captured the nerves and anticipation building as the season headed towards a climax.
The image of the fan goading The Gunners went viral, coming at a time when City cut Arsenal's lead at the top of the table to six points.
In the end, though, the jokes fell flat as Arsenal went on to to win the title, their first in 22 years.
And with the tables turned in their favour, it was time for Arsenal to have their own fun, in the form of their own memes.
The subject of some of those has been the City bottle fan, but this time turned into a light blue bottle himself.
And it seems to have had the desired effect, with Arsenal star Eberechi Eze unable to control his laughter when looking at the picture.
The 27-year-old, now a Premier League winner in his first season in north London, explained he saw the meme in a group chat he is part of, describing it as possibly "the funniest photo of all time".
"Do you know what makes it so funny? It's the top of his head," Eze said, broken up with laughter. "It's the way the bottle is attached to the top of his head.
"He knows it's all love, man. I don’t mean any malice with this but, brother. You could spin the top of the bottle on his head.
"Where are his legs?" Eze added.
The photo made such an impression that the former Crystal Palace man admitted it "might be my display picture for the rest of the year".
Despite laughing at the meme, the midfielder wanted to stress there was no ill-feeling towards the fan.
"Massive love to him because it's all banter and it's all part of the game, all part of football," Eze said. "And I like how he's done it. I don’t know his name, I don't know who it is but credit to him."
The man drinking from the bottle was also mocked at Arsenal's title celebrations, with fans drinking from bottles with his face on them.
Also on Thursday, Eze's former Palace manager Oliver Glasner paid tribute to the player and aimed a sly dig at Arsenal's rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, as well.
Eze was close to signing for Spurs in the summer, but Arsenal swooped in at the last moment to steal his signature.
"First of all I want to congratulate Arsenal, Mikel Arteta, his players, staff, for a huge achievement of winning the title after 22 years, it’s a fantastic job they have done," Glasner told reporters.
"Also a special congrats to Eberechi, I think he’s taken the right decision to go to Arsenal and not to another club."
