Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea result - William Saliba and Jurrien Timber strike as Mikel Arteta's side restore five-point gap on Manchester City

Set-pieces once again proved decisive for Arsenal as they restored their five-point gap at the top of the Premier League with a 2-1 victory over Chelsea on Sunday.

Thanks to headers from William Saliba and Jurrien Timber, Mikel Arteta's side reached a joint-record tally of 16 goals scored from corners this season as they secured a third victory over Chelsea since the turn of the year.

Chelsea posed some early problems for Arsenal, and threatened with a corner of their own on 19 minutes as Reece James' ball towards the near post was just about guided away.

But, just moments later, Saliba put Arsenal ahead. Bukayo Saka's corner towards the far post was nodded back across goal by Gabriel, with Saliba's header hitting Mamadou Sarr before trickling beyond Robert Sanchez.

Chelsea got themselves back level on the stroke of half-time, as James once again whipped a corner to the near post, with Piero Hincapie glancing into his own far corner.

Liam Rosenior's side came out in strong fashion after the break, with Enzo Fernandez testing David Raya from range, but Timber put the hosts back ahead when nodding home from a 66th-minute corner - with Sanchez sprawling after failing to judge the flight of Declan Rice's ball in.

Chelsea furiously protested as they thought their keeper had been fouled, with Pedro Neto receiving a yellow card for his protestations. And with a rash challenge on Gabriel Martinelli two minutes later, the Portugal forward was sent off - a blow from which Chelsea could not recover.

They did have the ball in the back of the net deep into stoppage-time through Liam Delap, but Joao Pedro had strayed offside in the build-up.

Defeat saw Rosenior surrender his unbeaten status in the Premier League. But, ultimately, his side only have two points to show from their last three matches, a run which includes draws with Burnley and Leeds United.

Arsenal visit Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday, while Chelsea head to Aston Villa. Both matches - as well as the full midweek round of fixtures - are live on TNT Sports and discovery+.

The goalscorer said his side has to embrace the challenge of ending Arsenal's Premier League title drought - despite the immense pressure that is due to come in the final nine matches of the season.

"We have to enjoy it," he told Sky Sports. "It's a privilege to be standing here, with my team-mates, with Arsenal, fighting for these titles.

"You have to enjoy it, it's a beautiful place, until now we've been doing it and nine games to go, game-by-game we are enjoying it and hopefully at the end something beautiful."

All three goals at the Emirates were a result of corners, and Timber spoke about set-pieces becoming ever-more important in the top-flight.

"I think we deserved to win this game," he told Sky Sports. First half we didn't give much away. We went to the dressing room at 1-1, which was a bit of a shame, but we finished it off second half.

"It's both sides, it became an important part of the game. Teams are focusing on it more which is interesting, but I think it's in our advantage. Overall, we played a good game, we can be proud of ourselves.

"Important game on Wednesday again."

And the important game he is referring to is, of course, the trip to Brighton & Hove Albion - available to watch live on TNT Sports and discovery+.

William Saliba spoke to Sky Sports while his name was being sung to the tune of 'Tequila' after the full-time whistle.

"Today it was not an easy game against a top team," he said. "We shouldn't have conceded the goal before half-time, but we did well second half to score set-pieces, and now we have to keep going, we're so happy to win today in front of our fans."

The title race still very much hangs in the balance. And as every week goes by, the more important the April clash between Man City and Arsenal at the Etihad appears.

Plenty of work to be done for Chelsea in their pursuit of a Champions League spot, and with Brentford on their tails too.

It was far from comfortable, but it's all about the three points at this stage of the title race.

Some nervy moment here, a wild turn of events. Pedro latches onto Tosin's flick on, and sees his overhead kick thwarted by a wide-spanning Raya, but Delap turns in from close range.

Rosenior is celebrating on the touchline, but the flag is up, with Pedro having stepped offside for the intial effort.

So nearly a horror moment for Arsenal, as Garnacho teases a cross towards the far corner.

Joao Pedro flies in to try and get his head on it, but misses it, and it looks for a moment as if Garnacho's cross will go all the way into the corner.

But Raya makes himself huge to get across to it and turn it away.

As he advances in the right channel, with Garnacho emerging from the left.

But rather than play it across first time, Delap gets his head down and runs into a blind alley, where he is turned away and commits a foul when trying to win it back.

As Sarr makes way for Tosin.

All things considered, a decent Premier League debut for the 20-year-old filling in for the suspended Fofana.

Six minutes to be added on.

Not a bad opening for Chelsea, as Caicedo strike from around 20 yards - left footed - after being found in a pocket of space.

It's always curling high and wide, but not an awful effort, and perhaps a sign there will be one or two more opportunities for the visitors as we enter the final stages here.

As the Chelsea subs mentioned below take place. Palmer and Fernandez make way.

And Arsenal have another chance to get the ball in the box.

Alejandro Garnacho and Liam Delap are waiting on the touchline to be introduced.

Down to his right, after Eze drifted inside and looked to wrap up the game.

Frustration massively evident for Chelsea now, as Fernandez picks up the ball and launches it into the ground after Caicedo is penalised for an obvious foul on Havertz.

Rosenior changes things up, taking off Santos and Hato, bringing on Malo Gusto and Romeo Lavia. The latter makes his return for the first time since suffering a quad injury in November, and he played 45 minutes for the under-21 side a week ago.

Arsenal, meanwhile, also make two changes. Gyokeres and Rice withdrawn, Christian Norgaard enters alongside Kai Havertz - who returns after missing four games with a hamstring issue.

Saka is bumped onto the ground after being played in by Gyokeres. But that's never going to be given.

Rice plays a wild backpass to Raya as Arsenal concede a corner, but when headed away, Martinelli breaks with a fine show of pace.

When the Arsenal forward breaks free on the left, Pedro Neto charges him down and cynically brings him to the ground, in the process earning his second booking and seeing Chelsea reduced to 10 - just a couple of minutes after his first caution.

Neto is still protesting on the touchline before being ushered down the tunnel.

All of the sudden, this match has a totally different outlook.
