Crystal Palace 0-0 Brighton and Hove Albion result: M23 derby ends in lacklustre stalemate in Premier League

Crystal Palace and Brighton & Hove Albion played out a lacklustre 0-0 draw in the Premier League on Sunday.

In a frantic first 10 minutes, both teams were presented with chances and kept goalkeepers Dean Henderson and Bart Verbruggen alert in the early stages. Jean-Philippe Mateta drove into the box but blasted over, before the ball fell to Diego Gomez down the other end, and he stung the palms of Henderson.

The game settled down with not much to separate the teams, before Yankuba Minteh squandered an opportunity just before the break when he broke into the penalty box on the right but fired wide at the near post.

Minutes into the second half, Palace had a huge chance when Adam Wharton nicked the ball in midfield as Palace hit Brighton with pace. Ismaila Sarr drove into the box but could not find an opening, finding Daichi Kamada instead, and he had the whole goal to aim at but struck wide.

Then came the biggest talking point of the game, when Georginio Rutter fell to the ground in the penalty area, which led to referee Tim Robinson pointing to the spot. However, a VAR review showed that Rutter had initiated the contact, and the penalty was overturned.

With Brighton looking most likely to score in the late stages, other than a terrific stop from Verbruggen to deny Yeremy Pino deep into added time, Palace held on to keep their run of 12 home games without defeat - the longest in the Premier League - alive.

Palace and Brighton drop one place each in the table, sitting 10th and 11th respectively.

A stalemate at Selhurst Park!

The M23 rivals will have to settle for a draw.

The ball drops to Yeremi Pino at the back post and he strikes low and hard, but Verbruggen gets down excellently with a strong right hand to keep the ball out.

What a moment that could have been!

Especially at home. They've not really troubled Brighton today, who have been watertight at the back and looked the most likely to break the deadlock.

There's still time for both teams...

There will be SEVEN minutes of added time to be played at the end of the second half.

Palace are on the longest unbeaten home run in the Premier League, not losing since they were beaten 2-1 by Everton in February.

As things stand, they will keep that run alive.

Baleba and Rutter are off, as Joel Veltman and Charalampos Kostoulas are introduced.

He makes a silky run into the box, shifts the ball onto his left foot and thumps an effort into the side netting!

After being struck with illness recently, Wharton can only play for so long and his time is up for this afternoon.

Rutter initiates the contact and the penalty is overturned.

He also goes into the book for diving.

This might go against Brighton...

Georginio Rutter drives into the box and runs into a cluster of Mitchell, Canvot and Wharton and hits the deck!

For a player, anyway.

Carlos Baleba brings down Mitchell and is cautioned.

And it's still goalless at Selhurst Park.
