Leeds 0-1 Manchester City LIVE - Premier League reaction as Antoine Semenyo bags nervy win to close the gap at the top

Antoine Semenyo's finish late in the first half was enough to guide Manchester City to a 1-0 win at Leeds, closing the gap at the top of the Premier League to two points.

Although eager to increase the pressure on Arsenal, City were pegged back by a vibrant Leeds, who dominated the opening period, as Dominic Calvert-Lewin fired wide in the opening minutes.

The hosts continued to create chances but could not find the finishing touch, partly due to wasteful finishing but also because of City's stubborn defence, spearheaded by Marc Guehi.

However, it was another January signing who broke the deadlock with the last kick of the half, as Semenyo poked home an Rayan Ait-Nouri cross from point-blank range.

After the break, City controlled the match with gusto, barely giving Leeds a sniff of the ball until the closing stages.

Leeds threatened with a few crosses and half-chances in stoppage time, but could not find a way through.

There was drama after the whistle as Daniel Farke saw red after angrily confronting referee Peter Banks at full-time.

City remain two points behind Arsenal with 10 games each to play, while Leeds are 15th, six points clear of the relegation zone.

Manchester City match winner Antoine Semenyo speaking to Sky Sports on the title race: "We just want to win all our games on our side and whatever Arsenal do we'll have to wait and see.

"We have to control what we can control."

On how the mentality is different at City compared to Bournemouth: ""It's the attention to detail, everyone's focused. It's not lacking. When you do that in training it follows into games and everyone just wants to win.

"Everyone's just major focused, and that shift in mentality is so crazy. Little things and making sure you're in tip-top shape."

Drama at the whistle! Daniel Farke took an immediate beeline towards the referee to have a word and, was promptly brandished a red card.

Hard to tell what he said but it must have been inflammatory. Peter Banks had no doubt.

Calvert-Lewin was about to control the ball inside the City half as the whistle went, maybe that's why he's angry.

Gudmunsson cuts inside the box, but Rodri gets in his way and buys a very cheap free-kick. One for Bargain Hunt that.

With one minute left, Leeds have one more chance. Nmecha wins the header in the box, but can't direct it to another white shirt and Donnarumma claims.

And that will be that! It was nervy at time, but City continue to pile the pressure on Arsenal at the top.

The ball is at the wrong end of the pitch for Leeds, and they concede a throw, allowing City to take control again.

Ait-Nouri picked up a booking for taking too long to take the throw-in, while Savinho gets one himself for a cynical foul.

Leeds take forever to take a corner, through no fault of their own, as Bernardo Silva tussles with Ampadu then throws himself to the ground.

Donnarumma gets booked for his afters with Gnonto after the referee paused to deal with the issue.

The pressure is building...

With 10 minutes to go, Leeds are starting to wake up. They send in a few crosses, which cause a bit of havoc before Rodri hacks the ball clear.

Semenyo and Cherki are doing a decent job at keeping Leeds pegged back in their half after that though, pressing high up the pitch to disrupt any rhythm.

Reijnders chops inside before winning a free-kick which CIty take quickly. After a few passes, Silva chips in a cross which Leeds head clear.

There has been a coming-together as Justin and Guehi both go for a 50/50 and neither has come off well.

After a bit of limping around, bothare good to continue, but Justin is bleeding through his sock.

This will either be a brilliantly calculated performance or a very silly one, depending on whether Leeds can create one more chance.

Farke shuffles his pack again, bringing on Wilifred Gnonto and Dan James for Bruev and Bogle.

Cherki and Semenyo link up well, and the latter's shot is blocked by Struijk. That was a crucial block as Darlow was beaten at the near corner.

The resulting corner is a beauty and, after Rodri's flick-on, Guehi heads goalwards but Darlow gets back to paw it clear at full stretch!

O'Reilly is down again and it looks like he hasn't shaken off that knock. The Leeds fans aren't happy as the physios come on to take a look.

Tijjani Reijnders is getting stripped and ready to come on, and he will replace O'Reilly.

Cherki finds Nunes, who pulls the ball back but there's no-one on the edge of the box to take a snap-shot.

Marmoush's day is done now, as Savinho replaces him. Will the Brazilian go up front then? Looks like the case.

O'Reilly has been robbed off the ball and stays down after taking a whack to the shin. Leeds make their first change.

Aaronson is replaced by Lucas Nmecha. Savinho is also set to come on for City.

Leeds have barely touched the ball in the last 10 minutes, but do get it back as Struijk and Rodon team up to muscle the ball off Semenyo.

It might have come at a cost though, as Rodon gets up a bit gingerly but is good to continue for now.

City's control in match situations like this is why they are so consistent in title races.

Nunes finds Marmoush at the near post but he can't control his shot, which goes high and wide.

City have started this second half with far more control than the first.

Ait-Nouri does really well to fight off a couple challenges and keep hold of the ball. He links up well with Cherki, but O'Reilly's cross is wayward.

Calvert-Lewin gets space in the box at the other end and shoots, but Nunes comes sliding across to send it behind for a corner.

There is too much argy-bargy in the box and City win a free-kick to relieve the pressure.
