BOOS AT ANFIELD AS LIVERPOOL HELD BY SPIRITED CHELSEA
Frustrated Liverpool fans hit the boos after watching their side held to a 1-1 draw by Chelsea in a breathless Premier League battle at Anfield.
Ryan Gravenberch gave the home side a dream start with a thumping opener from outside the box on six minutes, with an energised Liverpool well on top early in the game.
But Enzo Fernandez equalised for the Blues on 35 minutes when his free-kick from out wide somehow ended up in the net as it managed to elude the entire home defence before nestling in the net.
That proved to be enough to end Chelsea's six-match losing run in the top flight, but the home support were far from happy as boos rung out at full-time.
The decision by manager Arne Slot to remove talented teenager Rio Ngumoha on 67 minutes for Alexander Isak appeared to upset the Liverpool fans, with their failure to find a winner merely compounding the mood of discontent.
In truth, Slot's men came closest to earning the three points in the second half, with Virgil van Dijk heading against the bar, Dominik Szoboszlai hitting the post with a shot and Curtis Jones seeing a header disallowed by VAR for a Cody Gakpo offside.
But a spirited Chelsea also showed their mettle to earn a merited point a week before they face Manchester City in the FA Cup final with Cole Palmer seeing VAR chop off a goal early in the second half after Marc Cucurella was caught offside.
Meanwhile, fourth-placed Liverpool need another three points to secure a Champions League spot. They visit Aston Villa, a point behind them in fifth, on Friday night.

CROUCH ON THE FULL-TIME BOOS AT ANFIELD
Liverpool have managed to drop nine points from winning positions in the top flight at home this season, their worst return in a decade since they shipped 14 in 2015/16.
"There was certainly a frustration for Liverpool," said Peter Crouch on TNT Sports.
"It was a game of spells. They certainly started pretty well, but Chelsea dominated possession after the opening goal, and Liverpool couldn't get a stranglehold of the game.
"They had chances. but, ultimately, they didn't have enough quality on show to finish it."
CUCURELLA: CHELSEA MADE THEIR MARC AT ANFIELD
"I think the effort today was really good," said Spain's Euro 2024 winner on TNT Sports.
"I don't think it was probably our best moments, but we showed if we play together, and if we play together, then we have a good level.
"Hopefully, we can win a bit of confidence from this game, because next week we have a massive game
"We aren't happy, because we wanted the three points, but we are happy that we showed we're a really good team if we put in the effort and fight together.
"Hopefully, we can learn from this game and play well in these last few games."

"I think it was mine," said the Chelsea defender on TNT Sports.
"Everyone has told me that I touched the ball.
"I don't know if I did touch the ball, but if it's me or Enzo [Fernandez], I'm happy, because it was an important one.
"I didn't feel myself touch the ball to be honest, but everyone said they saw on the replays that I touched the ball. So I guess I did.
"It was a good shot [from Fernandez]. We worked on that during the week, so I'm happy for him."
Chelsea earned a point to remain in the hunt for a European spot, with sixth-placed Bournemouth three points ahead of them in the chase for UEFA Europa League qualification via their Premier League finish.
Of course, that could alter if Aston Villa, in fifth spot, win the Europa League to propel themselves into the Champions League.
"This is a big club with big players, so we need to fight for it," said Fofana.
"We need to get into Europe, no matter if it is the Champions League or Europa League. We need to give everything for this club and for the fans."
