Liverpool 0-3 Nottingham Forest recap - Premier League result as Morgan Gibbs-White caps off Forest rout 3-0 at Anfield after VAR drama

Morgan Gibbs-White, Murillo and Nicolo Savona were the stars as Nottingham Forest inflicted Liverpool’s sixth defeat of the Premier League season with Sean Dyche’s side worthy winners at Anfield despite having a goal controversially ruled out.

The Tricky Trees outfought Liverpool in every area of the pitch, fashioned more opportunities and were the more clinical side as Alexander Isak once again failed to fire after starting at striker.

Alexis Mac Allister went close early on with Liverpool’s best chance of the afternoon after good work from Cody Gakpo on the left flank, but his shot was bravely blocked and Murillo fired his side ahead almost immediately afterwards when he controlled a flick-on from a corner and fired through a sea of bodies.

Forest were unlucky not to get a second in the first-half when Igor Jesus finished past Alisson moments later, but referee Andrew Madley ruled it out for handball and VAR contentiously didn’t overturn the decision.

There was no denying Nicolo Savona after half-time though as he made the most of Nico Williams’ barnstorming run down the right by placing his shot perfectly past Alisson.

And Morgan Gibbs-White completed the rout in the final 10 minutes after Omari Hutchinson had his effort brilliantly saved. The result sees Liverpool drop into the bottom half of the Premier League table while Nottingham Forest climb out of the relegation zone.

Virgil van Dijk to spoke to Premier League Productions following the defeat, and didn't hold back:

"They scored obviously from a set piece again. You can ask if he was in front of Alisson, but it counted, so we're 1-0 down. We were not good in terms of battles, challenges, the fight, too rushed. It's a very difficult situation at the moment.

"There was nervousness after we conceded, but not before. We tried to rush things and that's human when you're in a difficult moment. We cleared the ones before and in the end, we're in a very difficult moment. We don't get out of it by just speaking about it. It will take a lot of hard work.

"It's a problem. Everyone in the team has to take responsibility as well. Football is a team and everyone has to take responsibility. We have to digest this and take it on the chin. We need to work harder. We have to keep going.

"Everyone is disappointed, like they should be, because losing at home to Nottingham Forest is, in my eyes, very bad. That's the least I can say about it. Those goals we conceded are far too easy and we all have to look in the mirror. I've been at this club so long now and we've been through adversity. We will bounce back but it doesn't happen overnight. I'm not a quitter and we will keep going.

"I can't decide what the supporters are doing if they leave early. I know the fans have been through thick and thin with us. They will be there with us when we come out of this because we will come out of this."

Forest are in dreamland, Liverpool despair! Apart from a period of superiority in the first half-hour, the visitors were the better, hungrier, more incisive side and fully deserve the victory as more pressure piles on Arne Slot and Liverpool's players.

Salah shifted the ball to the Italian as the defence skated backwards, but in a display of Forest's commitment that has won the game, Murillo throws himself in front of the effort to keep the clean sheet alive.

He's certainly feeling the effect of the shot that cannoned into a particularly tender area below the waist, though earns the plaudits from his teammates.

And aptly, they begin with Elliot Andeson winning a Forest corner. He's been magnificent today and should win Player of the Match.

Right now Forest fans seem to be the only ones chanting it at Arne Slot, while Dyche prepares to make another change.

His side will finally escape the relegation zone with this win, as it stands (with West Ham still drawing against Bournemouth) they'll be up to 16th and leapfrog Leeds, Burnley and Nuno Espirito Santo's new side.

The Whites host Aston Villa tomorrow.

Morgan Gibbs-White has almost certainly sealed the win for Forest! Omari Hutchinson cut in from the right with ease and fired a strong shot that Alisson had to meet with a fantastic save.

Yet with Liverpool light on numbers in the box, he can only parry the ball as far as Gibbs-White who finishes brilliantly across Alisson for Forest's third!

The striker had a free header in the penalty area and really should've done better, instead his tame attempt is straight at Alisson who catches and sets up a period of Liverpool pressure.

Huge shouts of 'SHOOOOT' went up as Szoboszlai controlled the ball on the edge of the Forest penalty area and for once the crowd was right.

Instead, he takes too many touches, allowing a defender to clear from under his feet and another Liverpool chance to halve the deficit slips away.

He's had just 14 touches of the ball - the fewest of all the 22 starters - and never looked like scoring today. Federico Chiesa is the man tasked with having a bigger impact while Andy Robertson comes on for Kerkez.

He's pinged for handball and receives a yellow card for his troubles, and the resulting free-kick isn't far away from making Forest's lead three goals.

Salah initially seemed to be pulled back by Williams yet continues his run, bursts into the penalty area then hits the deck after contact from Nikola Milenkovic.

Anfield roars for a spot-kick, however Madley is unmoved and replays back up the decision.

Szoboszlai finds an audacious pass to meet the run of Salah who was cutting across the box but in yet another display that Liverpool aren't the force they were last season, Ekitike is moving into the same area and collides with Salah, killing the change.

Omari Hutchinson is on in his place, the Argentine didn't have the busiest afternoon while Hutchinson can expect to spend most of his 40-minute shift on defensive duty.

Gravenberch will drop back into central defence as Slot makes his first change. Liverpool need their hero to make an impact here...

But who will the Frenchman come on for? How attacking will Slot be?

The Garibaldis could've broken there, but the ball ricochets off the heel of Jesus and the attack falls short. However, Forest have looked the better side so far this half following the goal.
