Manchester City v Wolverhampton Wanderers recap - Omar Marmoush scores early to help City to 2-0 victory

Omar Marmoush proved himself the right choice to start as he helped Manchester City to a 2-0 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Antoine Semenyo then scored right before half-time to provide City with more relief after a shocking 3-1 loss to Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League.

City looked comfortable from the get-go and Marmoush’s sixth-minute goal certainly made it easier for Pep Guardiola's team. T

Wolves seemed to settle in towards the end of the first half, but a nice pass from Rayan Cherki saw Semenyo run into a gap in the Wolves’ defence to find the back of the net just before the half-time whistle.

Despite renewed fight from Wolves after the break, they simply couldn’t find the accuracy and pace needed to beat City’s defensive line, bolstered by debutant Marc Guehi fresh off his £20 million move from Crystal Palace. 

City shut down a four-game winless streak in the Premier League to prevent losing more ground in the title race against Arsenal and Aston Villa, while Wolves tasted their first defeat in nearly a month. 

City will host Galatasaray for their last Champions League match ahead of the knockout stage, while Wolves will play Bournemouth next Saturday.

And that's it! The whistle blows and City have a win back under their belt and a clean sheet to boot. It was a good debut for Marc Guehi, and City will no doubt be very pleased with Omar Marmoush for stepping up.

Foden to take a City corner. It bounces out, Gomes chases desperately after it, gets it to Arokodare, who sends it overhead far too long to no one.

And now what a mess! Donnaruma, Guehi, and O'Reilly clutch each other in celebration as they fend off a desperate series of shots from Wolves between Mane and Mosquera.

Wolves have just five minutes to turn their fortunes around. City are shutting all of their attacks down, even finding a chance to try and make a run of their own.

Mane makes a desperate kick, it smacks off Silva, then Arokodare comes up for a header that goes over the net.

The crowd erupts as the referee calls a corner for a ball that Donnarumma felt he kept in bounds.

Wolves take the corner, and Mosquera agets his head to it - just high!

Mosquera then gets booked for trodding on Doku's heel in a challenge. He seems to be in a little bit of pain, but has stood up nevertheless.

Rob Edwards has his chin in his hand as he is sat down, Wolves need something special in added time.

Andre is being escorted off the pitch, and he looks furious as he speaks to the Wolves team on the sidelines and kicks at a water bottle. He returns now still shouting as he seems to feel that he was kicked.

Wolves can't make anything of their attack, and Rodri drops to the ground as he kicks a charging Mane, who couldn't pump the breaks in time as he comes up to pressure him.

City corner, Sa tips it away and City get a throw in. Mane takes the ball, but is hounded by three City men into sending a desperate kick up the pitch.

Oh and so close to a second for Semenyo! Foden gets the ball and both Haaland and Semenyo rush up the pitch ahead. He picks Semenyo off the right, who delivers a strike that just hits the corner of the woodwork!

A tidy slide from O'Reilly takes the ball off a charging Strand-Larsen, and Donnarumma picks it up. Mane comes charging in, but Nunes takes him down to earn a yellow.

Hwang is taken off for Tolu Arokodare, then Wolves take their free kick. It sails past the far post, and is headed out by Semenyo. Corner again. It goes to the far post again, then pushed out for goal kick shortly after.

Haaland gets his chance on the pitch alongside Doku, with Cherki and Marmoush coming off.

City corner, Foden to take. It floats towards the far post, but is headed away.

Joao Gomes gets the ball up on the right, then wins a free kick off on the side. Donnarumma comes out to smack it away again, but collides into the wall of men and Mane gets his head to it. Unfortunately it hits the keeper's trailing hand and stops it from potentially bouncing into the net. Wolves keep hold of the ball, a cross comes in to Strand-Larsen - who seemed offside anyway - and his header goes past the post.

Cherki aims one at the net but it skews right. Guardiola then pulls Reijnders off for Phil Foden.

Wolves look more attacking now, Mane whipping in a couple crosses that just can't seem to find a player. They get a corner, which Donnarumma pushes over the crossbar.

Corner again, this time City defenders pick it up before Andre fouls Cherki.

Another corner for Wolves. Donnarumma lunges out to punch it away, Marmoush dashes after the ball unchallenged, but his pass to Cherki goes awry.

Wolves get a throw in on the halfway line, it goes to Strand Larssen but it goes over Hwang's head. Khusanov then fouls Mane to give Wolves a free kick right outside the box.

Joao Gomes takes it, but it goes high over the net.

City are still looking confident on the pitch after the break. The crowd gets louder as Cherki moves into the box, but Rodrigo Gomes is there to fend him off.

The hosts continue to circle around Wolves.

Omar Marmoush added another to his tally of goals at home just six minutes in before Antoine Semenyo doubled their lead right before halftime. Wolves picked up the pace late in the first half but City still look very comfortable out there.

Tchatchouka out on the right for Wolves, but he gets foiled before he can reach the box. Cherki goes on the counter but is flanked by three men and his pass bounces into empty air to be retrieved by Sa.

Yes we do! Semenyo gets a pass off Cherki, runs into a gap in the middle of the Wolves' defensive line and slides it left past Sa. Guardiola is pumping his fists as City stretch their lead!

Semenyo moves the ball into the box, finds Cherki who could have a gap, but then a swarm of Wolves defenders descend and snatch the ball away. Close shave.

Wolves try and clear the ball from their final third, but it slips to Cherki, who finds O'Reilly and he fires it into the crowd.
