Manchester United 3-2 Fulham recap: Benjamin Sesko scores late winner to continue momentum under interim boss Michael Carrick

Manchester United are on the up under Michael Carrick after sealing their third successive win in the Premier League with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Fulham.

Casemiro continued his farewell tour with a goal and an assist, while Matheus Cunha scored another brilliant goal on his return to the starting line-up.

Fulham fought back when Raul Jimenez converted a penalty in the late stages, before Kevin scored a stunner in the first minute of added time as Marco Silva’s side thought they had salvaged a point.

But United hit back almost instantly through substitute Benjamin Sesko, who fired the hosts back into the top four with an excellent strike in the 95th minute.

In a comfortable first half for United, they thought they had won a penalty when Cunha was brought down by Jorge Cuenca in the box. But, after a VAR check, it was judged that the foul started outside the penalty area. 

Bruno Fernandes stood over the ball and lifted a cross to Casemiro at the back post, who diverted his header back across goal and beyond Leno to give United the lead.

Not long after half-time, the home side were in control, as Casemiro turned provider to slip the ball to Cunha arriving in the box, before he slammed the ball into the roof of the net from a tight angle.

Staring at defeat, Fulham looked to hit back when Cuenca scored from close range following a free-kick, but the defender was denied his first goal for the club after a lengthy VAR check, which ruled the strike out for offside.

Fulham did eventually get their goal when Raul Jimenez coolly converted a penalty conceded by Harry Maguire in the late stages, setting up a nervous finish for Carrick's side.

In stoppage time, Fulham pushed for an equaliser and, unbelievably, Kevin rifled an exquisite effort beyond Lammens and into the far corner with 91 minutes on the clock.

But United were not done there, as three minutes later Fernandes found substitute Sesko, who, with his back to goal, swivelled on the spot before finding the top corner with a pinpoint strike.

United held firm for the remainder of the added time for another three points, which takes them above Liverpool and Chelsea and back into the top four.

It was far more nervous than it needed to be after a fairly comfortable afternoon until the late stages, but they get the job done.

United are back in the top four!

We're still going as Fulham push for an equaliser.

The whistles are ringing around Old Trafford as the ball pings around the pitch.

We have four or five more minutes to play, depending on how long referee John Brooks will add after those stoppage time goals.

Can Fulham get another one?

Sesko receives the ball with his back to goal, turns on the spot and finds the top right corner!

You have to feel for Fulham, but it is an excellent response from the hosts.

The winger cuts in from the left, plays a one-two with Ryan Sessegnon, before unleashing a rocket into the far top corner!

Old Trafford is stunned!

Kevin scores an absolute screamer to level it!

That will only add to the tension at Old Trafford as United look to hold on to this lead.

According to Opta, Manchester United have gone 2-0 up in two of their three games under Michael Carrick this season, just one fewer than they did in 20 Premier League matches under Ruben Amorim (3) this term.

Jimenez converts with an excellent finish into the top left corner to halve United's lead!

Maguire slides across to challenge Jimenez and takes out the forward, receiving a booking in the process.

Maybe this game is not over just yet!

The ball falls to Jimenez in the box and the striker brings it down well before looking to pull the trigger, but Maguire gets a foot on it to take the sting out of the effort before Lammens tips it behind for a corner.

Excellent defending.

What a first touch that would have been!

A cross comes in from the right, and his powerful header crashes off the foot of the post before he sends the rebound over the bar.

And another good reception for the Brazilian, who comes off for Manuel Ugarte.

Cunha comes off to a standing ovation.
