DRAMATIC ROMERO DOUBLE EARNS SPURS A POINT
Cristian Romero played a captain's role as his dramatic second-half double earned Tottenham an unlikely point at Newcastle in a chaotic 2-2 draw in the Premier League.
Bruno Guimaraes emerged from the bench at the break at St. James' Park to plant the opener into the home net on 71 minutes, only for Romero to produce a fine diving header to level from a Mohammed Kudus cross on 78 minutes.
It looked like Eddie Howe's side would take all three points when Rodrigo Bentacur was deemed guilty of illegally blocking Dan Burn from a corner via VAR as Anthony Gordon sent Guglielmo Vicario the wrong way from the penalty spot on 86 minutes.
But the news of nine added minutes to the match seemed to visibly disrupt the home side.
And they paid the price for their hesitancy when Aaron Ramsdale failed to punch clear a corner as Romero managed to hook an overhead kick back into the traffic and beyond the diving goalkeeper five minutes beyond the 90.
It meant Thomas Frank's side avoided a fourth straight defeat despite having only two shots on target against a Newcastle side who were denied the chance of a third straight Premier League win.
Tottenham are 11th in the table before they host Brentford on Saturday with Newcastle 13th on the same points ahead of Burnley's visit on the same day.

KEVIN DANSO: TWO-GOAL ROMERO A 'WORLD CLASS DEFENDER'
"He gave us a lot of momentum," said Danso on Sky Sports.
"He always leads by example. He scored two very important goals, the second one was a very nice goal. He just showed again today what a world class defender he is.
"We're just going to keep pushing on. We just have to keep that mentality.
"It was a tough match, always difficult to come to St James' Park, and it's always tough away from home.
"We showed the mentality that we had been working on throughout the season."

Chaos in the home box before Romero reacts quickest to the Aaron Ramsdale punched clearance to produce an overhead kick that somehow is hooked back over his head to nestle in the net. Wow! What a finish.

Bentancur penalised for the blocking off on offence on Burn at the corner. The referee Thomas Bramall agreed with the VAR. Pretty obvious really.
