XHAKA AND TRAORE SHINE BUT SUNDERLAND DENIED SECOND PLACE
Grant Xhaka rescued a point for Sunderland in their Premier League clash with Everton.
It was a strong start for Everton, with a shot by James Garner going close in the opening minute of the match at the Stadium of Light.
That was a theme that continued throughout much of the first half, as Sunderland struggled to find their groove and Iliman Ndiaye took advantage in the 15th minute as he danced his way forward before curling home a stunner.
However, towards the end of the second half, Sunderland seemed to unlock something, and began to look more in control of the match.
This continued in the second half and just 40 seconds after it began, Xhaka found the net for the home side.
In fact, Xhaka and Bertrand Traore in particular impressed throughout, as Sunderland dominated much of the second half.
It was a physical match and neither side could be accused of sitting back and resting on their laurels, nonetheless both will regret wasted opportunities that could have otherwise seen them take the full three points.

MOYES: WE DID EVERYTHING RIGHT UNTIL MISSED CHANCE
Asked about what went wrong for his side, Moyes added:
We needed to get a few more efforts at goal, but right from the start Jack [Grealish] hits the post, Jimmy Garner hits the post, so it’d be hard to say that what we did was wrong in that period.

MOYES: I WAS PLEASED TO TAKE A POINT HOME
Asked about his team’s performance, Everton manager David Moyes told Sky Sports:
For 20-30 minutes I thought that I’d be disappointed if we’d gone home with a point but at the end of the game I was pleased that we got a point from it.

XHAKA: WE NEED TO SHOW OUR STANDARDS DAY BY DAY
Asked why he felt his side underperformed in the first half, Xhaka said:
To be honest, yesterday’s training was not our best day’s training, and we started like we finished the training yesterday, and we had a conversation between each other that on this level we need to show our standards day by day.

It might be a bit early to predict after 10 games, but they find themselves in fourth place at the end of the match.
