Tottenham 1-4 Arsenal result - Viktor Gyokeres and Eberechi Eze braces secure derby win as Mikel Arteta's team restore five-point Premier League lead

Eberechi Eze and Viktor Gyokeres scored twice each as Arsenal restored their lead at the top of the Premier League to five points with a 3-1 away to neighbours Tottenham.

Needing a win to restore confidence and cancel out Man City’s win against Newcastle yesterday, Arsenal started on the front foot as Gyokeres fired narrowly wide after a nice run.

Their momentum was halted when the refereeing team took several minutes to sort out a technical issue and Tottenham and new interim head coach Igor Tudor used the break to regain composure.

However, Arsenal broke the deadlock half an hour in. Eze, who nearly joined Tottenham in the summer instead, took control of a Bukayo Saka cross and volleyed past Guglielmo Vicario.

The Gunners got complacent all too quickly as Randal Kolo Muani dispossessed Declan Rice before firing past David Raya to equalise.

But Arsenal were quick out of the blocks after half-time and this time made it count as Gyokeres arrowed in a tidy finish from the edge of the box to regain the lead.

Spurs thought they were level once more when Kolo Muani smashed home from close range but his effort was ruled out because of a shove on Gabriel in the buildup.

Five minutes later, Arsenal put the game to bed. Saka broke in behind and, despite being tackled by Micky van de Ven, the ball fell straight to Eze who tapped home into an empty net.

Shellshocked Spurs rarely looked like getting back into the game after that but they nearly set up a grandstand finish when Richarlison’s shot was clawed off the line by Raya.

Gyokeres added the icing on the cake right at the death, curling home to inflict Tottenham’s largest defeat at home to Arsenal in the Premier League era.

Arsenal take back their cushion at the top of the Premier League, but City can cut the gap to two if they win their game in hand, and the two sides still have to meet at the Etihad in April.

Tottenham, meanwhile, continue their slide down the table and are just four points clear of the relegation zone.

Micky van de Ven said to Sky Sports: "Arsenal were the better team. We were still in the game at 1-1 but after the second half, they scored straight away and then it was really difficult.

"We pressed high but Arsenal came out of it. It's something we need to work on. They were the better team today.

"It's a risk when you go man for man and if one man is late then you're going to be open but when you win the ball high, there are so many options for us. But on the opposite, when they come out, it's a big risk."

On new manager Igor Tudor: "He is on us all week. Every day we worked on it. It's his first week and he wants to help us in every way.

"We need to win the games, step by step."

Eberechi Eze said to Sky Sports: "We put in a good performance. We did what we needed to do today, which was the main thing."

On if Arsenal needed to respond today: "Yeah, for sure that's the main thing. We know what we're capable of. We have to play games to dominate and to win and we've got the players in the team to do it."

On his brace: "I'm always trying to get in those positions to be ready and to find the space and to work hard to get those opportunities. It takes a lot to get there and it's worked out today."

On Gyokeres: "You can see how much he helps the team. Not just with his goals, with the effort he puts in and he puts players like me in good positions and it helps a lot, and he's got his two goals today which he deserves for sure."

It is so very much on. Arsenal lead City by five points, but the Citizens have a game in hand against Crystal Palace, which is yet to be arranged.

Both sides still have to play Chelsea, while Arsenal will hope their run of home matches coming up will help them out.

City, meanwhile have three matches against lower-mid-table opposition before their trip to Stamford Bridge.

Aggrieved Tottenham fans could point to a moment in the 55th minute as Kolo Muani's equaliser was ruled out due to a push on Gabriel.

The Brazilian certainly did make a meal of the contact, but you're never going to get away with a blatant push with two hands, no matter how soft.

Either way, Tottenham's performance deserved nothing tonight.

New manager, same result for Spurs.

They showed flashes of challenging the Gunners, but they were well, well beaten this afternoon.

If Igor Tudor didn't know the magnitude of the job he has on his hand before, he does now. They sit just four points above the relegation zone.

They couldn't go down, could they?

Gyokeres has been awarded Player of the Match. He has been excellent all day but Saka (three assists) Eze (two goals) deserve a mention too.

And he's capped it off with a second goal! Spence gets dispossessed and Odegaard threads him through.

He holds off Archie Gray in the box and then curls it into the far corner to cap off a perfect afternoon for himself and his side.

Can Tottenham at least threaten from the corner? No, Simons's delivery goes over everyone.

Bissouma gets booked for dissent now. Simons win a free kick in a half-decent position, but Saka needs some treatment first after committing the foul.

He will be replaced by Noni Madueke and there will be seven minutes of stoppage time.

Mathys Tel comes on for makeshift centre-back Palhinha. It was a tough afternoon for the Portuguese international, but such are Tottenham's injury problems that he has to play there until Romero returns from suspension.

How have Tottenham missed?! Sarr beats Hincapie and Richarlison turns it goalwards, but Raya gets back to claw it off the line!

A, um, blue flare has stopped play briefly as it needs to be cleared up. It isn't even Tottenham navy, maybe that Everton fan has returned to his flare-swapping ways?

Tottenham have done next to nothing since that Eze goal 20 minutes ago.

Oles ring around White Hart Lane from the Arsenal fans as their team knock the ball round Tottenham's half.

The home crowd were so raucous to start but they have been silenced by Eze, who now has five of his six Premier League goals for Arsenal against their local rivals.

Richarlison gets the ball in the Arsenal half but runs into trouble.

Two more changes for Arsenal. On come Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard, replacing Trossard and man-of-the-moment Eze.

There is an absolute mess of bodies by the corner flag, followed by some argybargy between Gabriel and Richarlison.

Trossard lines one up but curls it wide from 20 or so yards out. Tottenham look like they are beaten.

The Arsenal fans are in full voice. Tottenham are shellshocked.

The camera has just panned to a blow-up doll of Thomas Frank in an Arsenal shirt in the crowd.

Arsenal are playing with a spring in their step now, but one goal will very quickly change that.

Richarlison comes on for Kolo Muani. Right after the Arsenal goal, Dominic Solanke replaced Conor Gallagher.

He's done it again!

Once again, Saka gets in behind and runs through on goal. Van de Ven does really well to get back and dispossess Saka.

However, his tackle falls straight to Eze, who can pass into an empty net with Vicario out of position!

Rice now has space on the left and pulls it back into a decent area but Sarr is first to the ball and clears.

Arteta makes his first change of the match, replacing Jurrien Timber for Christhian Mosquera. It is the first time that Timber has missed a minute this season.

Simons runs at the Arsenal defence but has no support and Gabriel tackles. He has shown signs of life in this match.

Kolo Muani has the ball in the back of the net, but it's not going to count! He gave Gabriel a nudge before cheating down a cross and shoving home.

It was one of those that you feel would not be overturned whichever way the referee decided to make the decision.

Well, they've already held onto this lead for longer than the last goal. What do Tottenham have in their locker?
