West Ham 3-0 Leeds result - Nuno's side relegated despite convincing win on final day

West Ham did their job on the final day of the season, comfortably beating Leeds at London Stadium, only for Tottenham Hotspur to match their result and send their neighbours to the Championship.

Coming into the match, The Hammers knew that, as well as a victory, they needed Spurs to lose to Everton.

The Hammers only looked like scoring after news filtered through that Joao Palhinha had put Spurs in front against Everton.

Taty Castellanos’ header from Jarrod Bowen’s corner put them in front at the mid-point of the second half and then the creator turned goalscorer after being played in by a fine pass from Mateus Fernandes.

The Hammers scored with their last touch in the Premier League after a 14-year stay when Callum Wilson’s effort from 25 yards flew past Karl Darlow.

Nuno’s side finished the season third-bottom on 39 points, two behind Tottenham.

They will return to the second tier for the first time in 12 years. There are still nine minutes left at Spurs so they will cling on to hope Everton can score two goals.

Wilson receives the ball 25 yards from goal and launches an effort which takes a slight deflection off Gnonto before smashing into the inside side-netting. Seldom has a goal been greeted so indifferently.

He was gifted the ball by an errant Leeds half and, after looking to square the ball, he turned inside Struik before launching a left-footed effort which Darlow parried away.

Bowen cleared the ball which may have just been drifting wide of the goal.

That is the last Leeds substitution of the match. There are four minutes of injury time.

Mavropanos clears the danger though.

He is replaced by Kante.

A lazy hack on Bowen gets punished.

He flicks the ball back to Piroe but his header at goal does not trouble the Hammers stopper.

The substitutes' effort is deflected wide of the target.

Fans are dealing with the realisation that victory here will not be enough to stay up.

Fernandes with a good through-ball which sets Bowen up running into the right-hand side of the penalty area. He looks up for support but, with no pass available inside, he drives the ball into the far corner.

Piroe and Buonanotte come on for Tanaka and Bogle.

Spurs are one-up and have to lose for West Ham to stay up. The Toffees have not had a shot on target yet.

But after flicking the ball past one defender, catches Struijk when trying to manoeuvre the ball past him.

This is where the Hammers have to keep their tempo up. Leeds will be little threat if they do.
