Wolverhampton Wanderers 0-0 Newcastle United – Deadlock at Molineux as Wolves and Magpies labour to stalemate

The Premier League clash between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Newcastle United ended with a share of the spoils after a goalless draw at Molineux, but in truth it was a result that does neither side much good.

The visitors started the better of the two sides, with German target man Nick Woltemade heading off target twice with the Magpies' clearest two half-chances of the opening 45 minutes. But, as the first half wore on, Wolves started to grow in confidence as they troubled Newcastle on the break. However, they were unable to unduly trouble Nick Pope in the Newcastle goal.

Over the course of the 90 minutes, both sides were only able to muster two shots on target apiece, with that stat underscoring the lack of attacking quality on display. Neither side was able to find the finishing touch to their approach play and, in a game of few chances, there wasn't a moment of quality in the final third to decide the match.

The draw takes Wolves' points tally to eight, putting them six points adrift of their relegation rivals. For Newcastle, meanwhile, a chance to move up as high as fifth falls by the wayside. They now sit eighth, level on points with Brentford and local rivals Sunderland.

The 0-0 draw between Wolves and Newcastle is the 17th goalless draw played out in the Premier League so far this year, and already passes the number of 0-0's we saw in the league last season.

With another 162 Premier League games still to be played this season, that number looks be set to increase even further.

It might not have been the result they wanted, but Wolves' draw with Newcastle extends their unbeaten start to 2026.

Newcastle are throwing bodies into the box in stoppage time in a bid to claim a late winner.

Wolves' keeper had to be on his guard as he was called upon to make two saves, back-to-back, to keep his side level.

His first is a smart effort to palm away Miley's volley. Then he has to change direction quickly to keep out Joelinton's follow-up effort.

It's Trippier who steps up, and his beautifully-guided effort swerves around the wall and, with Jose Sa rooted to the spot, hits the net.

Unfortunately for the travelling Newcastle fans, it's the side netting, and the scoreline remains goalless.

Following Mosquera's yellow-card challenge, Newcastle have a dangerous free-kick chance around 25 yards out, right of centre.

Lewis Hall and Kieran Trippier are both lining it up.

Newcastle are well on top now, and have Wolves pinned back in their final third, but they're struggling to create clear-cut chances.

The best one so far this half just came via the right boot of Harvey Barnes, who found space down the right to whip in a dangerous cross that fizzed across the face of goal.

But, with Newcastle lacking a true penalty-box finisher, the chance goes begging.

It's been a game lacking in attacking quality so far, and both managers have opted to mix things up and make changes.
