West Ham's 3-0 defeat to bottom side Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday was labelled "embarrassing" by manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who is under increasing pressure having won just two of his 15 league games since replacing Graham Potter in September. The Hammers remain four points behind 17th-placed Nottingham Forest, and they host Sean Dyche's side in a relegation six-pointer on Tuesday.

Nuno Espirito Santo admitted West Ham United's performance in their 3-0 Premier League defeat to Wolves was "embarrassing".

All three goals were scored in the first half as their previously winless hosts - who had taken just three points from 19 Premier League games - romped to victory.

And Nuno, under mounting pressure having won just two of his 15 matches in charge of The Hammers, stressed the need for immediate improvement.

"I don’t recall one day that I felt so bad on a football pitch like today," he said.

"I have to apologise to the fans. For those that travelled, it was embarrassing. There’s not much I can say other than we are sorry.

"We are sorry because what we showed was not good enough. Today was the worst performance we had."

Nuno vowed to carry on, adding: "It’s not about my future. It’s about how we can get out of this situation, how we can improve and get the results that make us climb the table. This is what we are concerned about.

"Now is the moment to reflect, to think, to speak among ourselves, to see if we are strong enough to solve it."

West Ham are languishing in 18th, four points from safety, having not won since early November.

With the January transfer window now open, Nuno was quizzed on the club's potential activity in the market.

"It is a complex situation," he told BBC Match of the Day. "The club is working on that situation [transfers].

"We have problems in terms of the squad and options but that is not a justification for what we did in the first half - the mistakes we made, the lack of effort... it was very bad. It was about mistakes we made over and over again that was really poor."

After a heavy defeat to one of his former clubs, Nuno now faces another as West Ham host Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night.

It is likely to be a significant night in the relegation battle, with fellow strugglers Forest heading into the game off the back of a 3-1 loss at Aston Villa.

"Nottingham Forest will be a tough game but now is about reacting and transforming and improving," Nuno said.

West Ham defender Konstantinos Mavropanos gave a similar assessment of the performance at Molineux, apologising to the travelling fans.

"We want to apologise to our fans. They don't deserve this. It was unacceptable, especially the first half," he said. "We have to work hard. We have to realise the situation we are in and work harder. There is only one way to solve this situation and it is up to us.

"We understand their frustrations. When we concede three goals like this, it is normal they react like this. That is why I am saying we have to apologise.

"We have to show what we really can do, because I don't think this team deserves to be in this situation. It is up to us."
