Juventus - AC Milan LIVE - Juve pick up deserved win to move into Serie A top four

Juventus came out on top in a high-tempo clash with AC Milan at the Allianz Stadium on Saturday, as second-half goals from Samuel Mbangula and Timothy Weah earned them their first win of 2025.

Juve had drawn three consecutive Serie A matches and also lost a Supercoppa semi-final to the Rossoneri prior to Saturday’s headline clash, but the hosts were the better team for large swathes of the match, despite showing some concerning frailty at the back.

Both teams missed a host of chances in an end-to-end first 45, but the introduction of Weah at half-time changed the balance of the game, with his pace and threat in behind giving Juventus an added attacking weapon which they used to take control of the match after the interval.

The opening goal came when Mbangula’s shot was deflected off the boot of Emerson Royal to wrong-foot an otherwise excellent Mike Maignan in the Milan goal, and the second came just five minutes later, with Weah picked out by a classy Khephren Thuram through-ball before finishing well from an angle.

The game remained open right up until the final few minutes, when Juventus finally opted to shut up shop. The result moves Thiago Motta’s side into the top four, 10 points behind league leaders Napoli, who face Atalanta tonight. Milan remain eighth, and will still be there at the end of the weekend regardless of results elsewhere.

Both of these teams are involved in European action in the coming week when the Champions League returns on TNT Sports. Juventus play Club Brugge on Tuesday, while Milan host Girona on Wednesday. Any slim hopes Juventus have of winning Serie A this season remain alive thanks to this 2-0 win against a Milan side who would have drawn level on points with them had the result been reversed. Three points means that Juve are now ten points behind Napoli, albeit having played a game more, but will be smelling blood after the league leaders sold their star man to PSG this week. They were deserving of this win, playing the better football and creating a host of chances in a high-tempo match, although Milan will be frustrated that they weren’t able to be more clinical on the break. The battle for the top six spots remains competitive in the table, but Juventus can now look up, with Milan in danger of slipping off the pace.

The whistle goes and Juventus celebrate their first win of 2025. It’s a deserved one too, with goals from Mbangula and Weah seeing them past a spirited but slightly disorganised Milan side.

Juventus go long and Maignan comes bursting out of his area and heads clear in a three-way challenge for the ball. He’s stranded, but Juventus are unable to take advantage. That will likely be the last of the action.

Four minutes will be added on at the end of this game, and hopes of an AC Milan comeback have largely faded away.

Mbangula has played well tonight for Juventus and he’s given a warm reception by the home fans as he is replaced by Adzic for the final few minutes.

Milan have had their chances tonight, that’s for sure, but Juventus are playing in a much more compact fashion now, and it’s going to take something special for the visitors to open them up in this game state. It doesn’t really suit Milan’s attacking style.

Milan find Musah in the box but his shot is scuffed pretty badly and he’s fortunate to earn a corner from such a misplaced effort.

The towering figure of Vlahovic is brought off the bench, as is Fagioli, with Gonzalez and Thuram replaced.

It looks like Abraham has tweaked a muscle and so he is withdrawn, and Reijnders is also replaced. On come Jovic and Terracciano.

Milan have a free-kick in a dangerous area and it’s rolled to Theo Hernandez for the shot, but his attempt fizzes wide. He’s frustrated with that.

Milan break and there are tons of numbers forward, but Reijnders opts to shoot from range and his effort is blocked. That was the wrong option.

Koopmeiners’ evening has come to an end, with Douglas Luiz replacing him in the Juventus midfield.

Emerson is exposed at right-back with Juventus looking to attack at pace, and so he is replaced by Camarda, which will mean a formation switch.

Emerson Royal ends a Juve break with a mistimed challenge and he is booked.

The home side are completely in control of this game now and are putting Milan under huge pressure. Juve have been vulnerable when ahead in matches, dropping points from winning positions in seven matches so far this season, but they look very good value for this one as it stands.

That’s a gem of a goal from substitute Tim Weah. He was brought on for his ability to run in behind and it works a treat. His run is picked out by Thuram and he steps outside Tomori before shooting across the keeper to make it 2-0. Maignan’s weight was all going near post, and he’ll be disappointed watching that back.

Bennacer is withdrawn immediately after his yellow card, with Jimenez coming on in his place.
