Barcelona 5-0 Athletic Club result - Hansi Flick's side demolish La Liga rivals to romp into Sunday's final in Jeddah

Goals from Ferran Torres, Fermin Lopez, Roony Bardghji and a Raphinha brace inspired Barcelona to a huge 5-0 win against Athletic Club to reach the Supercopa de Espana final in Jeddah.

Hansi Flick’s side will face the winner of tomorrow’s semi-final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid live on TNT Sports and discovery+ on Sunday.

Athletic Club had the better of the early chances with Oihan Sancet testing Joao Garcia from the edge of the box after nine minutes.

But Ernesto Valverde’s side sat back after a fast start which allowed Barcelona to find a foothold in the clash.

Torres latched onto Lopez’s scuffed shot in the box after 22 minutes to bounce the ball past Unai Simon to open the scoring.

Lopez turned goalscorer eight minutes later as Raphinha picked him out in the box; the Spaniard opened up his body and hammered the ball into the top corner.

Bardghji added another four minutes later as his low drilled shot squirmed past Simon and trickled over the line.

The first-half romp was concluded by Raphinha as he picked up the ball and drove into the box from the left, unleashing a rocket of a strike which flew past Simon at the near post and into the top corner in the 38th minute.

Raphinha inflicted further misery - and ultimately the final blow - on their Basque opponents seven minutes after the break, smashing the ball into the back of the net following a moment of pinball in the box.

It was simply scintillating from Hansi Flick's side at times tonight.

They were too good for Athletic Club who took a bit of a battering in Jeddah tonight.

Another step towards another trophy for Barca!

And that is that, no added time says a lot. Barcelona have romped to the Supercopa de Espana final tonight.

After a good opening 20 minutes from Athletic Club, the Catalan side showed their strength and never looked back after Torres gave them the lead.

It will be Real or Atletico Madrid in the final on Sunday for them.

Replays show he was unbalanced as he hit it and he hangs his head in shame.

It sums up Athletic Club's night - so promising but no cutting edge.

Rashford hammers a cross-field switch to the Spaniard who is oozing with confidence as he uses the outside of his boot to cross.

Simon comes and claims before it reaches a Barca head.

Yamal then tries the same a minute later but his cross eludes everyone.

Much to the delight of every fan in Jeddah, the teenage sensation will take to the field.

Roony Bardghji makes way for Lamine Yamal who is welcomed with a big cheer.

Oh and Dani Olmo replaces Pedri. I don't think many in the stadium were fussed by that change.

This is almost painful to watch if you're an Athletic Club supporter.

Barcelona look full of life and Athletic Club simply don't

If the Catalan giants can see this one out with a clean sheet, it will be four encounters between these two without Athletic Club scoring. Ouch.

The Englishman wants to make his mark on this one.

He gets onto the ball and drives at goal but has two defenders in his way.

Shifting inside, he lets fly and his effort is deflected behind for a corner.

Balde, De Jong and Raphinha - who has been superb - make way.

Gerard Martin, Marc Bernal and Marcus Rashford enter the fray.

It almost feels like a friendly now. Barca are passing rings around their opposition who are offering very little now.

In comparison, Barcelona still have Lamine Yamal, Robert Lewandowski and Marcus Rashford to call upon. If necessary. (It won't be).

I suppose it can't get much worse.

This could get ugly.

It is chaos in the Basque side's box and eventually the ball falls to Raphinha who whips it into the back of the net.
