Everton 2-0 Peterborough United – FA Cup result as Beto and Ndiye goals give The Toffees win after Sean Dyche leaves

Everton caretaker manager Leighton Baines said that the players wanted to give the fans something during their FA Cup win against Peterborough United.

"It was a unique day in a lot of ways, but a nice moment for myself and Seamus (Coleman) (the interim management) and the players as well," said Baines talking to Match of the Day.
"It being a winning one is definitely a nice moment. The management side is not something I have been striving for but the opportunity arrived today to help out in the situation where the club needed someone and I was more than happy to help out.
"The outcome of winning a game is always a positive one. The lads get to stay in the draw in a cup competition we are all desperate to stay part of.
"The lads played well you could see the commitment. They wanted to give the stadium and fans something they would enjoy watching. For the most part the performance was positive.
"It has not been that difficult. This is what we do. Players play football and coaches coach. It was just a little different today. It is never nice when a manager loses his job but then everyone had to get on with their jobs as well.
"I am not too sure about that [what is next for the club] right now. Things moved so quickly today. I have definitely not had time to think about what comes next."

Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson said that he faced criticism from an Everton player for leaving teenager Tyler Young on the bench.

If the teenager had come on then history would have been made, with his father Ashley Young on as an Everton substitute.

However, with the game remaining in the balance until late on then Young was left on the bench, which Ferguson felt was ‘best for his team’.

Peterborough boss Darren Ferguson said his League One outfit ‘did themselves justice’.

However, he was left to rue two missed opportunities when the game was goalless which he felt could have changed the tie.

"It was a good performance, I told them to do themselves justice out there, they certainly did that," said Ferguson.

"I think it was a big moments in the game, certainly at 0-0 we had two big chances. And I said to the players before the game, unfortunately, I was proved right. The moment you feel comfortable in the game is the worry, that's the concentration.

"It was our best moment in the game when they scored. and that definitely impacted the game because you could just feel that the atmosphere was just about to turn at that time.

"So that was disappointing. The manner and the goal we lost was disappointing.

"But the performance I was pleased with, some real strong individual performances. The game wasn't over until the last minute.

"I felt if we could get to half-time and start the second half well, then I think this place could turn a little bit.

"But that goal just gave them the positivity."

Beto settled Everton nerves before a late Iliman Ndiaye penalty gave them a 2-0 victory against Peterborough United and a spot in the Emirates FA Cup fourth round.

The Toffees were rocked by the sudden departure of Sean Dyche hours before welcoming their League One visitors to Goodison Park.

However, the calm influences of club stalwarts Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman stepped up to create an interim management team.

The starting Everton team, selected and prepared by Dyche, were in control from the outset and Belgian Orel Mangala rattled the post.

Teenager Harrison Armstrong then sent through a perfect ball into the path of Beto to open the scoring.

After dominating the tie Everton sealed the win in injury time after Jarrad Branthwaite was pulled back inside the box from a corner and Ndiaye netted the resulting penalty.

All eyes will be on Everton in the forthcoming days as they appoint a new manager before hosting Aston Villa on Wednesday night, live on TNT Sports.

Goodison Park will be fairly satisfied with that result as they progress into the fourth round thanks to Beto’s opener and Ndiaye’s late penalty.

Peterborough are struggling in League One and only briefly challenged their hosts in flurries. However, they were comfortable second best and exit the competition.

Sean Dyche picked the starting 11 before his sharp exit but lead by Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman the Toffees progress.

That’s full-time and following a troublesome day Everton are through and into the FA Cup fourth round.

Branthwaite is judged to have been illegally pulled back inside the box when he was goal-side of his marker from a corner.

Ndiaye makes no mistake from the penalty spot calmly slotting his penalty home.

Two Peterborough players are rolling around with cramp. However, they have already made five changes.

The injury has resulted in an extended 10 minutes of additional time to this second half.

Not surprisingly Broja is unable to continue and is replaced by Lindstrom.

There was nothing wrong with the sliding challenge by Fernandez. However, the Everton man fell awkwardly and has to be stretchered from the pitch.

United goalkeeper Bilokapic comes flying out of his box to midway inside the Peterborough half. However, the keeper then misses the ball, only to be saved by a Fernandez challenge to deny Broja an open goal.

The left winger gets to the byline again and sends his cross into the face of the six-yard box. But nobody is on hand to meet his cross and Everton clear their lines.

Dornelly is taken off for Odoh. The game is not completely beyond the visitors yet.

The senior Everton star comes on for Patterson, his son Tyler is still sat on the Posh bench.

Harrison floats a lovely corner onto the foot of Keane who is waiting on the edge of the box. However, the Everton player shanks his effort and it goes into the pack of players.

Beto is replaced by Broja AND Armstrong is off for Harrison

The Everton player feels his side should have been awarded the decision and is booked for dissent.
