Nottingham Forest 0-2 Manchester City: FA Cup result as Pep Guardiola's side meet Crystal Palace in final after Rico Lewis and Josko Gvardiol goals

Early goals in each half secured an FA Cup semi-final victory for Manchester City against Nottingham Forest at Wembley.

Rico Lewis caught Forest cold when he drilled home a 20-yard strike with a little over a minute on the clock, but things could have been different if Anthony Elanga had scored a goal similarly early in the second half.

Brought on at the interval, Elanga had a gilt-edged chance to score with his first half but side-footed wide Callum Hudson Odoi’s perfect cross from five yards out.

Soon afterwards, Josko Gvardiol headed home a corner to give City a comfortable advantage, although Forest were inches away from equalising on three occasions. Morgan Gibbs-White hit the bar, with an incredible first-time left-footed volley, and then the post, with Taiwo Awoniyi also hitting the woodwork late on.

The win means City will play in the cup final for the third successive year and, after being beaten by their city rivals last year, will hope to go one better when they meet Crystal Palace on May 17.

Mateo Kovacic was awarded man of the match for Manchester City in their semi-final victory against Nottingham Forest and Pep Guardiola hailed the progressing form of the midfield general.

"He has been extraordinary," Guardiola said.

They will meet Crystal Palace in the FA Cup Final on May 17.

He gets a yellow card.

He was first to meet Elanga's corner but it was deflected wide of the goal.

But Gvardiol is there to clear the danger.

No one will feel it is going to be their day after so many near misses, but they are putting everything in to try and turn this around.

His pull back just misses Awoniyi and is struck wide by Elanga. The flag went up but it was a close call and would have been reviewed.

Doku and Foden come on for Marmoush and Savinho.

But Ortega saves comfortably. It might have been different if he had managed to head across the goal.

It's not going to be their day, the ball flies towards Awoniyi in the box and he sticks a side foot at the ball, which then cannons off the post.

But neither the youngster nor Marmoush could garner a clean shot on target.

The former Villa player has put on a fine performance today.

Sangare replaces Anderson and Awoniyi comes on for Wood.

Gvardiol's dawdled on the ball allowing Dominguez to get a touch and Gibbs-White went around Ortega before shooting from a narrow angle and seeing the ball come back off the far post and then bouncing to safety.

But Ortega was never threatened as he watched the ball fly wide.

What a strike from Gibbs-White on the volley! His tackle started the move on the edge of his own box and then when Elanga clipped a left-footed cross towards him the former Wolves forward crashed a shot with his wrong foot which left Ortega a flat-footed spectator, only for the ball to come back off the bat.
