Cote d'Ivoire 3-0 Burkina Faso result - Amad Diallo shines as defending Africa Cup of Nations champions set up quarter-final against Egypt

Defending champions Cote d'Ivoire brushed aside Burkina Faso in the Africa Cup of Nations last 16, with Manchester United's Amad Diallo leading the way.

Amad scored the first goal and created Yan Diomande's second in a 3-0 win which sets up a blockbuster quarter-final against Egypt, the record seven-time African champions, on Saturday.

The opener came via a lovely dink over the goalkeeper from Amad, who found space in a crowded penalty area after coming off the right wing.

Diomande swept home the second after a nice team move, teed up by Amad and by a classy Franck Kessie dummy, as Cote d'Ivoire went 2-0 up and looked in control inside 32 minutes.

Burkina Faso struggled to both create chances and sustain possession, though they did give The Elephants a couple of scares through Dango Ouattara, most notably when the Brentford forward struck the post from a tight angle just before half time.

Substitute Bazoumana Toure scored a brilliant solo goal in the 87th minute – carrying the ball from his own half into the penalty area, fooling the goalkeeper with his eyes and finishing at the near post – to complete the emphatic victory.

Amad has three goals from three starts at this year's Africa Cup of Nations, while fellow scorers Diomande and Toure are both 19, showcasing both the depth of The Elephants' attacking options and the newfound youth of the side.

Cote d'Ivoire were simply too good for Burkina Faso, with Diallo shining in the first half, and they advance to face Egypt ina mouth-watering quarter-final.

Burkina Faso's tournament is over, but on this evidence they have been eliminated by one of the very best teams at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Toure scores a brilliant goal, carrying the ball from his own half all the way to the Burkina Faso penalty area, and when the goalkeeper is readying for a cross, Toure instead slots home at the near post. Fantastic from the 19-year-old.

Diakite, an attacking substitute, gets his body between man and ball in his own half and win a free kick. Burkina Faso just don't have any answers today and the defending champions are winding down the clock.

Sekou Fofana is on for Inao – very impressive again and still just 19 – while Diakite replaces the brilliant Diallo.

Cote d'Ivoire break to devastating effect. Inao carries the ball a long way forward before playing in Diallo on the right and he looks set to wrap up the win, but Koffi makes a great one-on-one save.

Krassie and Toure replace Diomande, who has had a good game headlined by a goal, and Guessand.

Kessie sends a snapshot wide, but again it's Cote d'Ivoire applying the pressure.

Bertrand Traore is finally on, taking the place of Irie.

Kabore is also on for Yago.

Diomande beats his man on the left, gets to the byline and crossed for Guessand, who volleys just wide.

Tapsoba takes the free kick, hits it hard and low, and the wall blocks.

Sangare gets ball and man, making a tackle from behind on Minoungou on the edge of the box. The referee gives a free kick and Sangare, maybe for the foul or maybe for his reaction, is shown a yellow card.

Just a minute after playing an outside-of-the-boot pass which also released Diallo, there's more frustration for Inao as he's shown a yellow card for a foul on Minoungou.

Ouattara makes a great run across the near post to get to a low cross first, but his flicked effort is repelled.
