Mohamed Salah sealed Egypt's place in the Africa Cup of Nations quarter-finals, as they saw off Benin 3-1 after extra-time.

The Pharaohs will play either Ivory Coast or Burkina Faso in the last eight, after scraping through a 120-minute epic at Stade d'Agadir.

Omar Marmoush had the best opportunity of the first half, with the Manchester City forward shooting straight at Benin goalkeeper Marcel Dandjinou after just eight minutes.

Ramy Rabia was denied from close range after the break, before Marwan Attia opened the scoring in the 69th minute with a wonderful first-time strike into the top corner.

However, Benin equalised 14 minutes later to force extra-time, capitalising on sloppy possession by their opponents with Jodel Dossou slotting home from close range.

Egypt regained their lead seven minutes into extra-time, as Yasser Ibrahim beat Dandjinou with a looping header from Attia's cross.

Salah then put the tie to bed in the dying moments, racing onto Zizo's throughball following a swift counter, before bending beyond the goalkeeper with the outside of his boot.

The Premier League and Championship teams enter the fray this weekend.

Egypt are through to the quarter-finals, but they were certainly made to work hard for it.

The Pharaohs appeared in control when Attia put them ahead in the 69th minute, with a superb first-time strike into the top corner.

However, they were punished for sloppy possession around their own penalty area with seven minutes remaining, as Dossou capitalised to force extra-time.

Ibrahim chose an ideal moment to score his first international goal with a wonderful looping header, before Salah's exquisite last-gasp finish finally put the tie to bed.

Egypt will be back at Stade d'Agadir on Saturday, with Ivory Coast or Burkina Faso awaiting them in the quarter-finals.
