Nigeria 3-2 Tunisia result - Super Eagles see out dramatic nail-biter to book last 16 spot at 2025 AFCON

Nigeria saw out a gripping 3-2 win over Tunisia to book their place in the last 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi, and Ademola Lookman put The Super Eagles three ahead, but Tunisian defender Montassar Talbi scored in the 75th minute and Ali Abdi converted a penalty in the 87th to put up a valiant effort. 

It was a quiet first half for the most part, with Nigeria holding most of the possession. It was not until the 44th minute that Osimhen finally broke his goal drought, one that saw him subbed off on Tuesday, to send Nigeria ahead into the break.

Tunisia looked a little more energised coming back, but Nigeria continued their upward momentum with former Leicester midfielder Ndidi scoring his first-ever goal for his country.

It then looked all but over as Lookman beat three men to hammer a goal off keeper Aymen Dahmen and the near post to stretch their lead to three.

Talbi brought Tunisia’s hopes back up as he nodded a delightful header down into the bottom right corner to beat Stanley Nwabali’s gloves.

The ball then hit Bright Osayi-Samuel’s arm in the box and a penalty was given for handball. Abdi stepped up to take it and he easily put it home.

The Eagles of Carthage had a few more agonising chances as seven added minutes were announced, but it would be too little, too late.

Nigeria went three points clear at the top of their group and through to the knockout stages, while Tunisia are still ahead of Tanzania and Uganda by two points after the latter pair's draw earlier on Saturday.

Nigeria will play Uganda on Tuesday, while Tunisia face off against Tanzania.

The former Leicester City player took his first goal for Nigeria tonight to help his homeland qualify for the 2025 AFCON Round of 16!

Oh and it's not enough! The whistle sounds, and Nigeria squeeze past by one! They are through to the Round of 16 for the 16th time in a row.

Sassi drops to his knees as his header is inches past the far post! They are at Nigeria's door with a battering ram as they stay on the offensive.

A series of headers again, it comes out to Gharbi who takes it on the volley - past the goal against as an echo of Sassi's attempt. Breath of relief for Dahmen who has had to stay very alert in the last half hour of this match.

Nwabali makes a mistake by dropping the ball but Tunisia can't capitalise. That was nearly an error that brought an equaliser!

The Eagles of Carpathia are reinvigorated. They break again but the cross just doesn't drop for Gharbi.

Seven colossal minutes of added time, Tunisia have a real chance still.

ABDI PUTS TUNISIA BACK IN IT! Thumped home safely to the right as the keeper drives left, and we will have a tasty amount of stoppage time as well. What a match we have on our hands!

Nwabali is on the ground, his left foot got stuck in the grass as he tried to save Talbi's header. He's being seen to as Nigeria appears to prep subs.

Lookman scoops up his own now and surely Nigeria are through to the next round! His fifth AFCON goal across two tournaments, Ndidi runs up flanked by two Tunisian defenders, chooses to flick it back to the penalty spot for Lookman to run up, face off against four men, and bounce it off Dahmen's chest and into the net.

Can Tunisia pull out three goals in 25 minutes?

Tunisia is furious! Ajayi is booked, the ref chooses to blow the whistle just as Romdhane breaks and they are arguing that he did it too early! He kept running with the ball after the whistle, and he on the ground after being caught by Nwabali. The Tunisians want a red card for that incident but it happened after the whistle.

It appears that substitute Sebastian Tounekti is changing on the sidelines, will he be brought on?

Romdhane walks off the pitch and it appears Tounekti isn't coming on quite just yet.

Tunisia picked up the energy late in the first half, but it would be Nigeria who dominated and scored first. Can they equalise? Lookman gets us going again.

There goes the whistle, Nigeria are ahead going into the break thanks to Osimhen, and Tunisia will look to regroup for the second half.

IT'S ABOUT TIME! Osimhen ends the drought with a cross by Lookman, he soars backwards to meet the ball and Dahmen's fingers can't stop it from tipping into the bottom right corner of the net.

He's absolutely delighted to score after those missed chances earlier and the fans are just as excited for him.

Mejbri goes short, the Super Eagles surround Achouri and steal the ball. They nearly break but the Tunisian defenders are on it.
