Chelsea add eighth goalkeeper to ranks with teenager Mike Penders moving from Genk to join Premier League club

Chelsea's array of goalkeepers continues to grow with Mike Penders the latest to pen a deal with the west London club. The 19-year-old Belgian only made his senior debut this season for Genk and he will continue at the club he joined in 2018 for the remainder of the season. In July, Penders became the Belgian Pro League's third-youngest goalkeeper ever to make an appearance.

Teenage goalkeeper Mike Penders has officially joined Chelsea from Genk.
Penders will remain in Belgium for the coming season, after completing a transfer worth a reported £17.1 million.
The 19-year-old is officially the eighth first-team goalkeeper on the London club's books, with the No. 1 jersey currently belonging to Robert Sanchez.
The other six are Djordje Petrovic, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Marcus Bettinelli, Lucas Bergstrom, Eddie Beach and Filip Jorgensen.
Jorgensen was signed earlier in the window from Villarreal for a reported £20.7 million.
Penders has been at Genk since 2018 and has been immediately loaned back to the club before his move to London next summer.

With the Belgian Pro League starting earlier than the Premier League, Penders made his senior debut in July against Standard Liege, keeping a clean sheet.
Coming just three days before his 19th birthday, Penders became the third-youngest goalkeeper in the history of the league.
