Man Utd identify Ten Hag replacements
With Erik ten Hag still under pressure at Manchester United, the Daily Mail suggests the club have identified several potential candidates to step in.
Xavi Hernandez is one option, with Ruben Amorim, Thomas Frank and Edin Terzic also on the shortlist
The paper writes: “Manchester United have held secret talks with a number of managers over replacing Erik ten Hag as the Dutchman once again fights to save his job at Old Trafford.
“Mail Sport revealed earlier this week that United spoke with Xavi Hernandez 10 days ago after a four-man delegation led by chief executive Omar Berrada flew to Barcelona, while Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim and former Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic are also on the list of potential targets.
“It’s understood that Brentford’s Thomas Frank is once again under strong consideration having been linked with the United job in the summer.
“The club’s co-owners interviewed many candidates then before deciding to keep Ten Hag and extend his contract by a year. But the fact United have resumed their search for a replacement behind the scenes has cast fresh doubt over the 54-year-old’s future. The club have declined to comment.”
Isak could leave Newcastle
Newcastle United are aware that their striker Alexander Isak is attracting interest from big sides.
Arsenal are one team who have already expressed an interest, and that could affect transfer talks.
The Telegraph explains: “That means there are clubs who would be able to offer Isak a big pay rise if he did leave St James’ Park and Isak’s representatives have relayed this information to their client.
“Newcastle are not happy about that, but also realise there is little they can do to stop it happening when you have a player who is being watched by a host of rival clubs at home and abroad.
“Crucially, though, they have not received a single bid for the 25-year-old and, although there was talk of Arsenal’s interest earlier this year, Telegraph Sport understands Isak was not under consideration by them over the summer.
“Newcastle are well aware of the fact there is likely to be interest in a striker who finished second in the Premier League goalscoring chart last season behind Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, but are not currently worried.
“But the interest in him is unlikely to go away and there is always a risk that, should Newcastle fail to qualify for the Champions League again this season, that a player of Isak’s talent and profile could become unsettled. This, though, is true of all Newcastle’s blue-chip brigade.”
Liverpool director departs
Dave Fallows, Liverpool’s director of scouting and recruitment, is to leave the club in the coming weeks.
The Mirror notes that his departure follows the appointment of sporting director Richard Hughes.
The paper states: “Liverpool have confirmed long-serving director of scouting and recruitment Dave Fallows is leaving the club.
“Fallows will depart by the end of the year, having moved to Anfield in 2012. He exits having assisted with the transition to a new structure behind the scenes, following the departure of Jurgen Klopp and his staff, and the arrival of new sporting director Richard Hughes.
“Fallows arrived at Liverpool from his role as Manchester City's first-team scouting and recruitment co-ordinator. He has been a key part of Liverpool’s squad-building during his time at Anfield. But with the club’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, overhauling football operations at the club and within the managing company, he is now moving on.
“FSG’s overhaul saw Michael Edwards brought into a role with FSG, with Hughes as sporting director of the football club - bringing Mark Burchill with him from Bournemouth's scouting department.”
