Liverpool could re-sign Bayer Leverkusen defender Jarell Quansah after missing out on Marc Guehi, while Brentford may be the side that almost signed Daizen Maeda in the recent transfer window. Elsewhere, Everton hope to keep Jordan Pickford for the next few years, and Oriol Romeu is now free to join a new side after being released by La Liga champions Barcelona.

Quansah could return to Anfield
The Mirror believes that Jarell Quansah could be in line for a return to Liverpool in a couple of years.
After missing out on Marc Guehi, Arne Slot’s side could now exercise their £51 million buy-back clause for the Bayer Leverkusen man.
The Mirror reports: "The Reds academy graduate left Anfield in the summer in a £35m move to Bayer Leverkusen.
"And that left Liverpool needing a potential replacement. Guehi was identified as that man, albeit a move collapsed late on deadline day, with Crystal Palace unable to find a replacement.
"Quansah’s eventual Anfield successor could actually end up being Quansah himself. In the deal that took him to Germany, Liverpool managed to slot in a buy-back clause that will become active in the summer of 2027.
"The Reds would then have the chance to bring the defender back to Merseyside for a fee of £51m. By then, he will be halfway through the five-year deal he signed with Leverkusen."
Brentford linked with Maeda swoop
The Daily Mail suggests that Brentford were the side keen to sign Daizen Maeda from Celtic in the recent transfer window.
The 27-year-old forward revealed that he was denied a move away from Celtic when they could not find a replacement.
The paper writes: "Daizen Maeda has revealed that he wanted to leave Celtic before the transfer window closed, only for a proposed move to be blocked by the Parkhead club.
"Last season’s Scottish Premiership Player of the Year says he was eager to take the ‘next step’ in his career after receiving a tempting offer from elsewhere.
"Speaking while on international duty with Japan, the 27-year-old explained that he was late in joining up with his country this week due to ‘club circumstances’ after the transfer window closed on Monday night.
"'I received an offer,' Maeda told Soccer Digest. "'I had been telling the club that I wanted to take the next step, but Celtic hadn’t been able to strengthen their squad properly, so in the end they told me they couldn’t let me go'.
"Maeda, who has scored 63 goals since joining Celtic in January 2022, had been linked with Brentford, but he refused to divulge if it was a Premier League club who tried to sign him."
Everton hope to keep Pickford
Everton hope to keep goalkeeper Jordan Pickford for the long term and tie him down to a new contract.
His current deal ends in 2027, and The Athletic reports Pickford, James Tarkowski, James Garner and Vitalii Mykolenko could all be in line for fresh terms.
The website states: "Everton are set to begin formal talks with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford over a new deal.
"The England international’s current contract expires in July 2027, but Everton would like to reward him for his strong displays in recent seasons and have already indicated their intention to offer him a new deal. Pickford, 31, played a major role in helping Everton avoid relegation and is now part of the senior leadership team in the dressing room.
"There is hope a new deal can be agreed and talks are ongoing. Pickford is one of the highest earners at Everton alongside defender Jarrad Branthwaite, who agreed lucrative new terms earlier this summer, and loan signing Jack Grealish.
"Everton are also planning to look at the contract situations of James Tarkowski, and Vitalii Mykolenko, with the trio into the final 12 months of their terms."
Romeu leaves Barca early
Barcelona have reached an agreement with midfielder Oriol Romeu to leave the club a year ahead of his contract expiry.
The 33-year-old is a free agent and would be free to join another club as a result.
The Sun explains: "Barcelona have quietly said goodbye to former Southampton star Oriol Romeu.
"The ex-Chelsea and Saints midfielder had his contract terminated by the club in the final days of the transfer window.
"Romeu's employment with the Camp Nou outfit ended on August 28.
"That is despite the 33-year-old having a contract with the club running to June 30, 2026."
