Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton secures £15 million switch to Ligue 1 side Olympique Lyonnais on five-year contract

Lyon have splashed out £15m to buy Tyler Morton from Liverpool, with the midfielder putting pen-to-paper on a contract that runs until the end of the 2029/2030 campaign. The 22-year-old has not played for Arne Slot's side since a UEFA Champions League defeat to PSV in January. The Englishman was part of the England side who won the UEFA European U21 Championship this summer.

Tylor Morton has completed his move from Liverpool to Lyon.

The 22-year-old missed the Reds' friendly double-header against Athletic Club on Monday night as he prepared to seal the switch.

An U21 European champion with England, he joins the French club on a five-year contract that will run until the end of the 2029/2030 season.

The transfer ends weeks of speculation, as the midfielder had also been linked with a switch to West Ham this summer.

But while they pondered over a move, Lyon pounced, securing his services for £15 million.

"Here too, you will never walk alone," Les Gones wrote on X as they confirmed the transfer.

Morton made his Liverpool debut in a 3-0 EFL Cup win over Norwich in September 2021, coming on as a half-time substitute for Naby Keita.

However, he would only make a further 13 senior appearances for The Reds, as first-team opportunities proved hard to come by.

As such, the midfielder spent the 2022/23 campaign on loan at Blackburn, before joining Hull on a similar deal in 2023/24.

He pulled on the red shirt for a 14th and final time in a competitive fixture in Liverpool's 3-2 UEFA Champions League defeat to PSV in January.

The youngster has starred at international level, as he helped England win the UEFA European U21 Championship this summer.

He successfully completed a medical with Lyon earlier on Tuesday and could make his Ligue 1 bow against Lens on Saturday, August 16.

In confirming the transfer, Liverpool said they "would like to wish Tyler all the very best for the future."

He had featured for Arne Slot's men this summer, stepping out in a pre-season friendly against AC Milan during their tour of Asia.

In a statement on the club's website, The Reds added: "The move brings an end to the midfielder's journey with the Reds that began at the age of seven and saw him progress through the Academy set-up to make 14 appearances for the senior team."
