Manchester United have completed the signing of free agent Fridolina Rolfo.
The 31-year-old won 13 trophies in four seasons at Barcelona, including four Liga F titles and two UEFA Women's Champions League titles, but in June had her contract terminated a year before its expiry.
She is moving to the Women’s Super League on a two-year deal until 2027.
She told the United website: "It’s really exciting to be joining Manchester United, not just because of the size and history of the club, but also to become part of the journey the club is on in the women’s game.
"I have been fortunate to enjoy lots of success at Barcelona and other clubs I have played for, and now I want the same at Manchester United.
"The WSL is probably the strongest league in the world right now, so that was a big part of the appeal of coming here, as well as the chance to help the team establish itself in the Champions League
"I can’t wait to work with Marc, his staff and my new team-mates and get started with this new adventure in my career."
Rolfo was a mainstay in the Barcelona team at left-back until last term, when injuries and the emergence of Esmee Brugts limited her play time.
She becomes United’s second summer signing, after the arrival of her Sweden team-mate Julia Zigiotti Olme from Bayern Munich in July.
Matt Johnson, United’s director of women’s football, said: "Fridolina is one of the most talented and successful players in the women’s game, both at club and international level.
"She will add quality and experience to our squad, and the winning mentality of someone with over 20 major honours and 100 international caps.
"Her signing demonstrates the ambition we have to compete at the highest level in domestic and European competition, and we are delighted to welcome Fridolina to Manchester United."
