Man Utd confident of beating Manchester City to midfield transfer target Elliot Anderson - Paper Round

Forest value the England international at £100 million and recently rejected an £80m offer from City, who are said to be frontrunners to sign the player.

The Guardian adds: ”United believe he can be persuaded to move to Old Trafford.

”United have already agreed a €40.5m (£35m) deal with Atalanta for Ederson, the 26-year-old Brazil midfielder, who is expected to be paid approximately £70,000 a week at Old Trafford. Anderson’s salary at Forest is considerably higher at about £100,000 a week, and he can expect to receive a 50% increase on this regardless of which Manchester club he joins.

”Sir Jim Ratcliffe remains intent on trimming costs at United but the club’s co-owner would be prepared to meet Anderson’s wage demands should the former Newcastle United player decide to join United rather than City.

"Anderson has a contract until June 2029 with Forest but it is widely expected that he will depart this summer.”

Juventus are keen to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez after missing out on Liverpool's Alisson Becker, the Daily Mail reports.

Martinez almost left Villa for Manchester United last year, but remained in the Midlands and went on to win the UEFA Europa League.

The Mail adds: ”Much will depend on whether the Italians can get near Villa's valuation of the Argentina No. 1.

”But Villa have been anticipating that the 33-year-old could go, hence their interest in the likes of Manchester City and England's James Trafford.

”Juventus had targeted Alisson initially as they were convinced he wanted to join them and they believed a deal could be concluded with him having just one year left in contract.

”Liverpool, though, are not in a position to spend big on a replacement as they look to utilise their budget on other priority positions and they have told the Brazilian they want him to stay and look likely to allow the 33-year-old to run his contract down.”

Tottenham Hotspur have advanced talks with Manchester City over a £60m deal for winger Savinho, the Daily Mail reports.

The report claims Savinho is also keen on a move to Spurs.

The Mail adds: ”City wanted over £70m in initial talks then as they were looking to use funds towards another winger with Real Madrid's Rodrygo an option that was discussed.

”They are in the market again for another winger this window with the likes of Everton's Iliman Ndiaye among players they are assessing.

”Talks are ongoing over the structure of the offer which will include add-ons and bonuses.”

Premier League champions Arsenal have sacked their head doctor Zafar Iqbal, the Telegraph reports.

The 51-year-old had been at the club since February 2024 but was told he would be leaving on Monday, just over a week after their UEFA Champions League final defeat.

The Telegraph adds: ”It is not clear what formal process was undertaken before the decision.

”Telegraph Sport reported last month that the club had commissioned a Spanish physiotherapist who had a long association with Mikel Arteta to look at the club’s problematic injury record this season.

”It is unclear whether Dr Iqbal’s sacking has any connection with that review, by the physio Joaquin Acedo. It is understood that the news came as a huge surprise to Iqbal and other medical staff.”
