Arsenal look to strike £90m Alvarez deal
Arsenal are aiming to seize the chance to sign Atletico forward Alvarez in the summer transfer window.
Mikel Arteta wants the 26-year-old at the club before pre-season starts, though Alvarez is believed to favour a move to Real Madrid or Barcelona.
Valuation is another hurdle as Arsenal do not want to exceed £90m, whereas Atletico are holding out for an offer above £100m.
The Independent reports: ”Arsenal are attempting to get a deal for Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez done before pre-season, as competition for the player looks to have regressed.
”The 26-year-old finally came alive in this World Cup on Sunday morning, scoring the extra-time winner for Argentina in their 3-1 win over Switzerland with a brilliant curling long-range strike.
”Alvarez is open to an Arsenal move but his preference had been to stay in Spain, with either Barcelona or Real Madrid.
”The situation may well change again when the dust settles on a chaotic World Cup, but Arsenal are currently pushing on Alvarez.
”A prior issue has been that they don’t want to go above £90m, whereas Atletico want north of £100m.”
Man Utd keep Ederson and Santos deals alive
Despite reports that Ederson's move to Old Trafford had collapsed over a failed medical, Manchester United insiders insist that deals for the 26-year-old Atalanta midfielder, Chelsea's Andrey Santos, and free-agent goalkeeper Karl Darlow could go through.
United manager Michael Carrick is keen to add to his midfield after Casemiro’s departure and Manuel Ugarte’s injury.
Meanwhile, the club are also maintaining a long-standing interest in 35-year-old Darlow.
The Sun explains: ”Club sources insist deals for Ederson, Santos and free agent Karl Darlow remain possible.
”Seventeen of Santos’ 25 starts for Chelsea last term came after Liam Rosenior was appointed in January.
”Santos played for Rosenior on loan at Strasbourg in one of his four loan spells away from Chelsea.
”United considered bringing in Darlow, 35, four years ago and he started 22 times for Leeds United last term.
”Ederson, 26, made two substitute appearances for Brazil at the World Cup and United had always aimed to finalise that planned signing in July.”
Rangers plan midfield restructuring
Rangers are looking to add to their midfield after signing Cameron Devlin.
While Nicolas Raskin and Connor Barron are expected to leave the club in the near future, Rangers still have Tochi Chukwuani, Dan Neil, Mohamed Diomande, Lyall Cameron, Jose Cifuentes, and Nedim Bajrami in their squad, with further moves for Vanja Dragojevic, Jens Hjerto-Dahl, and Lewis Ferguson being lined up.
The Daily Mail states: ”Nicolas Raskin and Connor Barron could both move on in the coming weeks but that still leaves Tochi Chukwuani, recent recruit Dan Neil, Mohamed Diomande, Lyall Cameron, Jose Cifuentes and Nedim Bajrami on the payroll.
”Moves for Partizan Belgrade captain Vanja Dragojevic, Tromso’s Jens Hjerto-Dahl and possibly also Lewis Ferguson are also in the pipeline.”
United set for windfall if Chelsea sell Garnacho
Manchester United are poised to secure a significant financial boost due to a 10% sell-on clause they negotiated when selling Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea for £40m last summer.
The 22-year-old Argentine endured a difficult debut campaign at Stamford Bridge, failing to make an impact as Chelsea slumped to 10th in the league and missed out on European competition.
Chelsea are now prepared to cut their losses and will entertain permanent offers in the region of £42.5m, with Italian giants Roma currently showing concrete interest.
The Mirror reports: ”Garnacho has found life difficult since making the move to Stamford Bridge from Old Trafford last summer for £40m.
”The Argentine made precious little impression in west London as The Blues stumbled to a 10th-place Premier League finish - missing out on European football entirely.
”This has fuelled speculation that the 22-year-old could be shown the door, with the Press Association reporting that Chelsea are prepared to sell and will entertain offers in the region of £42.5m.
”United could pocket an additional windfall from last year's Garnacho sale, having shrewdly negotiated a 10% sell-on clause within the agreement, entitling them to a cut of any future transfer fee should Chelsea choose to cash in.
”Reports emerging from Italy have indicated that Roma are eyeing up the United academy graduate.”
