Chelsea breakthrough in £117m Rogers chase
An agreement has been struck that will see Aston Villa and England midfielder Morgan Rogers relocate to Stamford Bridge after a massive transfer proposal by Chelsea was accepted.
The final administrative steps are being processed to conclude the transaction for the forward. Personal terms have already been ironed out, meaning the 23-year-old will sign a contract keeping him tied down for the next six seasons, with club officials reserving the possibility to add a further 12 months to the stay.
The definitive validation of the transfer rests on a medical evaluation that has been arranged for the start of the week.
The Athletic reports: "Chelsea have reached a verbal agreement with Aston Villa to sign Morgan Rogers.
"A bid of £117m has been accepted, although the deal for the attacking midfielder is still being finalised.
"Personal terms are in place on a six-year contract through to 2032 with the option of a further 12 months, and a medical is scheduled for Monday."
Guardiola linked with England
Pep Guardiola has confided in his inner circle that he retains an ambition to take the helm of the England national side at a later stage.
This revelation follows his previous choice to turn down an approach for the position two seasons ago.
Having concluded an exceptionally successful 10-year tenure with Manchester City that yielded plenty of silverware, the manager is currently taking a break from the dugout.
The report says that England's recent 2026 FIFA World Cup elimination could potentially offer the context required to revisit the role.
The Mirror states: "Pep Guardiola told friends he would like to manage England in the future after initially turning down the job in 2024.
"The 55-year-old stepped down from Manchester City this summer following a glittering decade in charge.
"At the Etihad, Guardiola claimed 20 major honours, including six Premier League titles and the Champions League.
"However, Guardiola has informed those close to him that he has dreams of taking charge of The Three Lions one day. While he is ‘prone to changing his mind,’ he may see England's World Cup exit as an open door to the position."
Pochettino prepares to resolve USA future
The hierarchy of United States are determined to retain Mauricio Pochettino despite a disappointing performance at the 2026 World Cup which culminated in an abrupt round-of-16 exit for the co-hosts.
The manager's contract concluded with the final match of the tournament, but a fresh four-year extension has already been drafted to secure his presence for another complete cycle.
A definitive resolution on whether he will lead the project forward is expected to materialise swiftly, following hints from the coach that his position will be clarified at the start of the week.
The Daily Mail reports: "USMNT fans may not have to wait much longer to learn the fate of head coach Mauricio Pochettino following the team's World Cup exit.
"The USA crashed out of the World Cup with a humiliating 4-1 defeat to Belgium in the last 16. Despite the defeat, US Soccer want the manager back with his current $6 million-a-year deal set to expire at the end of the tournament.
"The Argentine, 54, has a four-year contract extension on the table that would take him through to the end of the 2030 World Cup, but he has yet to confirm if he will stay for another cycle.
"Yet, that decision could come as soon as Monday with Pochettino teasing that he could make his mind up next week."
Bergvall to Newcastle could trigger Guimaraes move
An official approach from St James' Park for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall could inadvertently speed up an incoming arrival at the Emirates Stadium.
Newcastle United have shifted their attention to the young midfielder after losing out on Switzerland international Johan Manzambi to Aston Villa.
Having struggled for consistency and playing time under his previous manager, Bergvall has formally requested a move away.
Should a transfer be completed, it could clear the path for Arsenal to advance their pursuit of Bruno Guimaraes, having already conducted preliminary discussions with the player's camp.
Standard Sport explains: "Newcastle have made a move for Tottenham midfielder Lucas Bergvall, which could be good news for Arsenal.
"After losing out to Premier League rivals Aston Villa for the signing of Switzerland World Cup star Johan Manzambi, Eddie Howe’s side have had to turn their attentions elsewhere in an attempt to bolster their midfield options.
"The 20-year-old saw his minutes restricted under Roberto De Zerbi as Spurs avoided relegation from the Premier League, and he has informed the club of his desire to leave and explore new opportunities.
"If Bergvall does end up making the move up north, he could be a replacement for Bruno Guimaraes as the Brazil international has been heavily linked with a switch to Arsenal.
"The Gunners have already [held] initial talks with Guimaraes’ representatives to gauge his availability, as reported by Standard Sport last month, and those discussions proved positive."
