Manchester United v Paris Saint-Germain recap - Melvine Malard and Fridolina Rolfo earn hosts third successive win on historic night at Old Trafford

Manchester United made it three wins from three matches in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, beating Paris Saint-Germain 2-1.

Goals from Melvine Malard and Fridolina Rolfo secured a vital victory for United in their first-ever European match at Old Trafford, a historic night for the team.

Paris Saint-Germain almost took the lead after just two minutes, with Jennifer Echegini rattling the post with a brilliant cross from around 25 yards out.

Safia Middleton-Patel was completely beaten and would have been relieved to see the ball come back to her off the woodwork, rather than nestling in the back of the net.

Malard broke the deadlock after 32 minutes with a fantastic goal, with the French forward proving too strong for Griedge Mbock, before curling a brilliant strike into the far corner.

Mary Earps, who was facing United for the first time since leaving the club last year, was helpless as the ball flew into the far corner.

Olga Carmona equalised for Paris Saint-Germain right at the end of the first half, hitting a superb strike right into the top corner.

The Spanish international collected the ball in midfield, before unleashing a ferocious hit at goal that Middleton-Patel could only watch as it sailed past her.

The visitors nearly scored at the start of the second half as well, with Anais Ebayilin’s strike tipped onto the post by Middleton-Patel.

However, it was United that retook the lead, with Rolfo heading past Earps.

Jess Park started the move, playing a one-two with Simi Awujo, before moving the ball wide to Anna Sandberg, who produced an excellent cross to Rolfo and the Swede finished off a magical team goal.

PSG pushed hard for an equaliser, but United defended brilliantly, with Jayde Riviere and Gabby George in particular producing fine performances to ensure the hosts continued their perfect record.

United face a difficult trip to Wolfsburg next time out, while Paris Saint-Germain host Bayern Munich, the former desperately in need of a first victory.

"It was crazy, a moment like this is a lifetime opportunity. The support from the fans was incredible and the way we played was brilliant.

"I think I would say this is the best form of my career. I think I have a lot of freedom and confidence, and I am able to express myself well, so I am enjoying it.

"My role is to find space, link play and find others, there is nothing really set in stone, I think I just have to be a kid again, have fun and enjoy it.

"We all have our individual qualities, and we back each other up. The main thing about these team is we support each other.

"We had to come back after the weekend performance, it was not good enough, and we wanted to make a stand tonight," said Jess Park to BBC Sport.

That is a brilliant result for Marc Skinner's side, who battled brilliantly against a strong PSG side.

The visitors have been a threat all evening, but United have held strong at the back throughout, with Le Tissier and George both having fantastic performances.

Goalscorers Rolfo and Malard are replaced by Leah Galton and Terland for United, as they look to close the game out.

The visitors make a couple of changes with Ajibade and Groenen replaced by Tante Diakite and Tara Elimbi Gilbert.

Park involved again, setting up Awujo in the box for a shot at goal, but Earps was equal to it.

That was a fantastic move.

The hosts have started the second half in the same way as the first, looking very nervy on the ball and misplacing passes.

They need to gain control here.
