Norway 3-2 Senegal - World Cup result as a brace from Erling Haaland secures his country a place in the round of 32, despite Ismaila Sarr's double

Erling Haaland emulated Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe by bagging a brace to secure Norway a place in the last 32 of the 2026 World Cup, despite Ismaila Sarr's own double for Senegal.

Having seen Messi and Mbappe score twice for their nations earlier in the day, Haaland did the same to take his tally to four at his first World Cup.

Norway dominated the first half, and scored their opener through substitute full-back Marcus Pedersen, an effort Edouard Mendy will feel he should have done better with as it snuck through his grasp and inside his near post.

Norway could have been further ahead at the break, with Martin Odegaard missing a couple of golden chances, and Haaland hitting the post when gifted the ball in the area in a similar manner to his second strike against Iraq.

Norway's record scorer was at his clinical best in the second half, though, as Odegaard fed him a ball on the counter-attack, then later he scored a controlled volley with his right foot from Patrick Berg's cross.

In between, Ismaila Sarr latched on to Sadio Mane's pass to score, and in injury-time the Crystal Palace man was on target again, showing great control and composure to gather Nicolas Jackson's through ball and then steer it home.

Norway's players joined in a 'Viking Row' with their fans after the final whistle.

The victory puts Norway second in Group I, one behind France on goal difference ahead of a meeting on Friday, June 26.

Senegal will hope a victory over Iraq in their final game is enough to secure them a place in the second round.

But Norway deservedly go through thanks to Erling Haaland's brace, but spare a thought for Ismaila Sarr who almost got his country something out of the game.

Sarr met Jakobs' corner at the front post but could not get above the ball to head down into the net.

But his effort is blocked by Ajer.

He cleared the danger and got a big bash to the back of his head by Ciss for his trouble.

But his cross is put behind by Pedersen who immediately goes down with cramp. As does another Norwegian and Senegal aren't happy about it. Pedersen has to go off the field - and he can barely stand.

A lot of his team-mates have not shown their best, but the Crystal Palace man has certainly shown up, controlling the ball superbly before slotting a finish beyond Nyland.

A wonderful run down the left from Berg who danced around challenges before trying to feed Haaland a tap in but, after the ball was half-cleared, Bobb sent a rocket headed for the roof of the net which Ciss leapt to flick over the bar.

It looked like Haaland was set to bag a hat-trick after being played in the inside-left channel, but the Senegal defender was sharply there to get in the way.

Bobb and Ostigard come on for Sorloth and Heggem.

He meets Mane's cross with an overhead kick which is blocked by Wolfe's arm, before dropping to Jackson in an offside position. In the Champions League that would have been a penalty - but not in this tournament, and that's a good thing.

And it goes off harmlessly for a goal kick.

And it gives Norway a free kick to put into the box from 35 yards out.

There was a coming together between Gana and Wolfe. The defender did catch the Senegal midfielder with his arm, but both were going for an aerial ball. It looked innocous.

Do Senegal have it in them to get a result? It doesn't look like it.
