Ripper GC’s Lucas Herbert won LIV Golf Virginia by four shots from Sergio Garcia, with the Australian a much-deserved winner after leading throughout the four rounds.

Herbert ended on 24-under par with most of the work done with his incredible first two rounds of eight and nine-under par respectively.

Beginning the final round three clear of the Spaniard, Herbert's lead was extended to five early on, then cut to one after he made a double bogey on the ninth.

After giving himself breathing room with birdies on 11 and 12, Herbert made two bogeys on the back nine which saw the lead cut to two once more with two holes to play - and before the leading players could tackle the 17th play was delayed half an hour due to heavy rain.

On the resumption, Herbert hit a fantastic approach shot helping him make a birdie, while Garcia could only make a par, giving him a relaxed walk down the 18th with a three-shot lead.

The European Ryder Cup legend bogeyed the last which meant his Fireballs team were put into a play-off with 4Aces. They would go on to lose the teams event with David Puig bogeying the 18th, while his team-mate Josele Ballester and 4Aces pair Thomas Detry and Anthony Kim all made pars.

Bryson DeChambeau finished in third place on 19-under par ahead of Dean Burmester with Ballester one further back. Kim finished sixth after a 10-under par round alongside Detry, who missed out on a place in the US Open to Herbert as a result of the results in Virginia.

Kim slots home the three-footer to give the 4Aces victory with par, as Fireballs make 1-over. It is their third teams win of the year.

If Detry and Kim hole their short putts they win.

Detry comes close to holing third

The two Fireballs both have some work to do to get a par. Kim can go close to winning it with his 20-foot birdie putt.

They are not far from the flag but they might be difficult third shots to judge.

He puts it on the green. Ballester's second is wild and is lucky to hit the grandstand and bounce just short of the bunker.

Herbert wins!

He just fails to end with a birdie, but will be more than happy to tap home for a richly deserved victory. He becomes the 27th LIV Golf Champion.

Garcia bogeys, playoff for the Team title

He left himself a difficult 10 footer and saw it drift left. Both teams end on 49-under par.

A tough up and down for Garcia

He drove well wide of the fairway and then his second shot went in thick rough off the green, without a lot of territory to play with ahead of the hole. Herbert is 15 feet away from the hole in two.

Fireballs one ahead

Luis Masaveu's putt on his last hole, the 15th, puts them ahead and with the 4Aces all in the clubhouse, Garcia needs a par down the 18th to help his team win.

Herbert goes three-up

So surely the individual title is his now. Garcia can still help his Fireballs side win the team event.

DeChambeau goes into third on his own

He sinks a five foot birdie putt to go to 19-under par.

Kim gets 4Aces level with the Fireballs

They are both 49-under. Kim has finished with a round of ten-under par 62. If it goes to a playoff, surely he will be the 4Aces man chosen to play.

You'd think he should definitely get a birdie from there. Garcia is taking his third shot 100 yards from the green.

The players will now drive on the par-five 17th.

Can you believe it! With two holes to play... There is no lightning in the area but heavy rain, so they will wait until this passes.

The lead is now down to two

The arrival of heavy rain may not have done Herbert favours there, but his bunker shot for once was not a great one and he could not putt the 8-footer he left himself.

Everytime he responds...

Herbert rolls in a 15-foot putt to go back to 24-under and surely end all doubt he will win this tournament. Garcia also knocks in a 12-footer to keep the margin at three strokes.

Just after Garcia slotted home a six-footer, Herbert missed one from almost half the distance. It is not over yet.

Teams race closer than the main competition

4Aces are two clear of Fireballs, after Anthony Kim's eighth birdie of the round. The Fireballs are two ahead of Ripper. Being the aggregate of four players, these margins can change quickly.

Back-to-back birdies for Herbert

He two putt from 25 feet on the par-five 12th to move to 24-under par. Garcia's birdie putt slides just past the hole so the lead is now three. A great response from the Aussie.

Burmester moves up to fourth

He sinks a long birdie putt on 13 and this could be crucial as if Herbert wins and Detry finishes below fourth the former qualifies for the US Open.

The lead is back to two shots. Could this be the pivotal moment?

After a bogey and having to rescue a par, he makes a fine birdie sinking a 12-footer.

Garcia moves within a stroke

Herbert recovered to make par but Garcia sinks his short putt and he is now on 21-under. Just one shot behind.

The lead could close further...

Garcia put his second at the tenth to a yard from the flag, while Herbert's went the length of the green, ending in the rough on the edge.

A double bogey from Herbert means that he has just a two-shot lead to take into the back nine.

After over-hitting the par-three hole, he chipped form off the green and the ball came rolling back down the hill to him a yard from his starting position.

Garcia was short with his six-foot eagle putt so he and Herbert, who also drove the green, both birdie and the gap remains five strokes.

He sinks another long one to move onto 17-under.

Lead up to five shots!

What a way to respond to a bogey. A three from Herbert on the fifth puts him five clear of Garcia. DeChambeau also birdies the hole to move one behind Garcia.

As well as those further down the field are playing, Herbert's chances of winning have improved further by the Spaniard's mini-collapse.

Detry with another birdie

A three on the fifth sees him move level fourth with Burmester and Ballester. Rahm drops a shot at the same hole to move back to 14-under and joint-seventh.

The lead is back to three as he puts a ten-footer to go under par for the day, after Garcia failed to do the same from slightly further out.

He opts to put from the edge of the green and sinks it for a three. He leapfrogs Rahm and Ballester to move into third place with 15-under.

A fine start to reduce the lead to two shots, with Herbert missing his birdie chance.

A very good three on the first for the young sensation to move level with Rahm on 14-under.

Starting on the par-five second, both players hit threes to move up the leaderboard.
