BAGNAIA BLASTS TO SPRINT VICTORY AT BRNO
Former MotoGP world champion Pecco Bagnaia turned a lightning-fast start into Sprint race victory at Grand Prix Czechia to claim his first win since his Sprint victory in Malaysia last season.
The Italian, who qualified third earlier in the day, made a flying start to blast clear of compatriot Fabio Di Giannantonio and Japanese polesitter Ai Ogura to lead into Turn 1. And, once he hit the front, he was never headed as he pulled clear early, then managed his pace on deteriorating tyres later in the race to claim the victory ahead of Trackhouse Aprilia's Ogura in second and Ducati team-mate Marc Marquez in third.

Bagnaia had opted to run with the soft-compound rear tyre for the race, and he made full use of the stickier rubber in the early laps to take the lead and pull a small but manageable gap out front. Ogura stayed in touch, but despite pushing the pace in the closing laps, he couldn't quite make up the final tenths of a second to mount a serious challenge for the win.
Marc Marquez was his typically aggressive self early on as he fought his way through to third from fifth on the grid, then chased down Ogura during the middle portion of the 10-lap race. But, despite closing in on the leading duo, the Spanish ace couldn't find the extra pace in the closing stages to give him a chance to upgrade his third place.
Front-row starter Di Giannantonio finished a lonely fourth, while Jorge Martin picked up more valuable championship points in fifth.
Elsewhere, the race proved to be another Sprint nightmare for Martin's Aprilia teammate and championship leader Marco Bezzecchi, who crashed out in the later stages of the race to register his fourth Sprint DNF from nine starts this season.

BAGNAIA: SOFT TYRE CHOICE WAS CRUCIAL
Tissot Sprint winner Pecco Bagnaia was delighted with the decision to race with the soft-compound rear tyre, and said that selection proved vital to his race victory.
With most of his rivals opting for the harder medium-compound rear tyre, Bagnaia pushed hard in the early laps, using his stickier rubber to pull into a strong early lead. And while he had to fight hard to hold off a charging Ai Ogura in the closing laps, he still had enough grip to be quick enough to secure the victory.
For Bagnaia, who found himself on the wrong tyre on a few occasions earlier in the season, it was nice to have made the right choice this time around.
"Yeah, luckily it was the correct (choice), not like Austin or the choice we did some races ago. But very happy," he said during his post-race interview in the pit lane.
"The first two laps made everything. I started where I tried to push, open the gap, and then I tried to control a bit, because the rear (degradation) was not that bad, but the vibration was huge, so I needed to slow down a bit and try to control Ai in the last two laps.
"But I'm very happy, we are working very hard, so I hope that tomorrow will be good (and) the same."

OGURA SAYS FRONT TYRE HINDERED CHANCE TO WIN
Before the race, much of the tyre talk focused on the rear tyre, with different riders going for different options. But, after finishing second in the Sprint, polesitter Ai Ogura felt that the front tyre lacked a little as he tried to push Pecco Bagnaia for the race win.
"The performance of the rear tyre was really good for me," he said during his post-race interview in pit lane.
"The biggest limitation was the front, so I thought I could have something more at the end of the race, but no.
"That was like that this time, and (we'll get) another chance tomorrow, so we will try again."

MARQUEZ HAPPY, BUT NOT ECSTATIC, AFTER THIRD-PLACE FINISH
Marc Marquez didn't look overly impressed with his third-place finishin the Tissot Sprint at Brno, but chose to look on the bright side ahead of the main Grand Prix race tomorrow.
"Yeah, happy with the third pace," he said in pit lane after the race.
"We did the correct option (with the tyres) – Ducati did a great job. So, yeah, (we'll) just try to work for tomorrow and try to improve in the long race."

BAGNAIA HOLDS ON TO WIN THE SPRINT AT BRNO!
He had to push his bike, and his tyres, to the very limit in the closing few laps, but the Ducati man takes the victory in the Tissot Sprint at Brno.
Polesitter Ai Ogura tried his hardest, but will have to content himself with a solid second-placed finish, while Marc Marquez takes third. Expect him to be right there in the mix for the win in the Grand Prix race tomorrow.
Elsewhere, it was a disastrous Sprint once again, for Marco Bezzecchi, with the championship leader crashing out with two laps to go.

Bagnaia is hanging on to the lads, but Ogura is lurking with intent in second. And don't count out Marc Marquez, who is ready to pick up the pieces in third.

BEZZECCHI IS DOWN!
A huge moment in the context of the championship, as Marco Bezzecchi goes down and out at Turn 3.
That's an absolute disaster for the championship leader, who will concede more ground to the chasing pack.
That's his fourth crash from nine sprint races this season.

Just as it looks like Marquez is close to reeling in Ogura, the Trackhouse Aprilia man turns a brilliant lap to put himself within striking distance of Bagnaia with two laps to go.
Can the Ducati man hang on, or will Ogura find his way past?

Marc Marquez may be sitting third, but he'll be thinking that the race win could be up for grabs here.
He's almost onto the back wheel of Ai Ogura's Aprilia, with the Japanese rider a matter of just a couple of tenths behind Bagnaia.

KTM's Pedro Acosta has struggled to stay with the pace so far in this Sprint race, and he's pushed things a little too far.
He slides off at Turn 11 after losing the front end. Rider looks OK, if a little miffed...

IT'S CLOSING UP OUT FRONT
The front three are starting to close up. Bagnaia's blistering early pace might now be coming back to bite him, while Ogura is closing in on the race leader.
Ogura might be flying, but Marquez is even quicker. This is shaping up to be a cracking finish to this Sprint race.

MARQUEZ HITS THE GAS
He's taken his customary few laps to settle in, and now Marc Marquez is getting the hammer down and is in hot pursuit of Ai Ogura.
The multi-time world champion just clocked the fastest lap of the race, and is starting to close in on Ogura, who himself is starting to catch Bagnaia out front.
Could we end up with a three-bike battle for the win in a few laps' time?

BAGNAIA IS FLYING!
The race leader started Lap 3 with a half-second lead over Ai Ogura, but now the former world champion has a lead of almost a full second after a blistering lap.
It'll be very interesting to see if his tyres last the full 10 laps, but he's certainly pushing them to the limit in these early laps.
Further back, Jorge Martin and Pedro Acosta are duking it out for sixth place.

Francesco Bagnaia isn't hanging around to save his tyres. He's got his head down and is pushing HARD in these opening laps.
Ogura is going with him, but the front two are starting to pull a gap on the chasing pack, led by Marquez, with Di Giannantonio right on his tail.

HODGSON: BRNO DOUBLE COULD MAKE MARQUEZ THE MAN TO BEAT
A double win at Grand Prix Czechia could make Marc Marquez the 2026 MotoGP world title favourite, according to TNT Sports expert Neil Hodgson.
Marquez has returned from surgery looking like a new man, and the multi-time world champion looked to be back to his best last time out in Hungary, where he claimed victory in both the Sprint and Grand Prix races.
And if the Spanish superstar notches another double this weekend, Hodgson reckons Marquez will become the favourite to capture the 2026 MotoGP world championship.
