Marc Marquez will miss the upcoming Grands Prix in Australia and Malaysia after suffering a shoulder injury during his first-lap crash with Marco Bezzecchi in Indonesia. The world champion was taken out and looked in considerable pain as he arose from the gravel. Ducati Lenovo have now confirmed the extent of the injury but are hopeful their star man can return before the end of the season.

Newly crowned world champion Marc Marquez has been ruled out until November after Ducati Lenovo revealed the extent of the shoulder injury he suffered during Grand Prix Indonesia.
Marquez was taken out at high speed by Aprilia rival Marco Bezzecchi on the opening lap of the race on Sunday and sparked immediate concern when he looked in serious pain as he walked away from the incident.
There was "evidence of a break" after an initial examination and the true damage has now been determined after further tests in Madrid.
The long-term prognosis is positive and both team and rider are hopeful a return before the end of the season is possible, but Marquez will miss the Grands Prix in Australia and Malaysia.
"After undergoing several medical examinations, the Spanish rider has been diagnosed a fracture at the base of the coracoid process and a ligament injury to his right shoulder," a Ducati statement read.
"Clinical examination and radiological assessment have ruled out any connection with previous injuries and have also confirmed the absence of significant bone displacement.

"For this reason, the medical team led by Dr. Samuel Antuna and Dr. Ignacio Roger de Ona has opted for a conservative treatment plan, involving rest and immobilisation of the affected shoulder until full healing and clinical consolidation of the fracture, thus definitively ruling him out of the upcoming Grand Prix in Australia and Malaysia."
Marquez underwent four surgeries on his right arm after suffering a career-threatening injury in Jerez in 2020, but completed his remarkable comeback to the summit of the sport this season, dominating from the outset en route to a seventh MotoGP world title.

However, he endured an untidy weekend in Indonesia. The Ducati man was forced to come through Q1 for the first time all year before finishing sixth in the Sprint race.
It then went from bad to worse in the GP when he was hit from behind by Bezzecchi, who misjudged his entry into a corner and collected Marquez.
Marquez appeared to be trying to pop his shoulder back into position when he stood up after the crash, which led to fears he could be set for another extended spell on the sidelines.

But Marquez will not need to go back under the knife and is ready to throw himself into his recovery.
"Fortunately, the injury isn’t serious, but it’s important to respect the recovery timeline," Marquez said. "My goal is to be back before the end of the season, but without rushing things beyond the doctors’ recommendations.
"Both my personal and the team’s main goals have been achieved, so now the priority is to recover properly and get back to 100%."
After Australia and Malaysia, the riders return to Europe to conclude the season in Portugal and Valencia in November.
