Francesco Bagnaia to switch brake discs again in Mugello despite Aragon success, insists Marc Marquez is 'man to beat' in Italy

Factory Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia admitted he may need to switch brake discs from those used in the Aragon MotoGP for this weekend’s race at Mugello. The Italian rode to third in Aragon upon moving to 355mm brake discs. However, he may be forced to use smaller ones at Mugello, where he has claimed three successive victories. Bagnaia is third in the standings, behind the Marquez brothers.

Factory Ducati star Francesco Bagnaia admitted he may need to switch brake discs from those used in the Aragon MotoGP for this weekend’s race at Mugello.
Bagnaia rode to third in Aragon earlier this month, after moving to larger 355mm brake discs.
The Italian, who is third in the standings on 140 points, had been hoping to use the larger discs at this weekend’s Grand Prix in Tuscany, though suggested that conditions may be too hot for them to work properly.
"I think the larger discs [took us] a good step forward," Bagnaia told TNT Sports. "It was helping me in a track where I was needing it.
"But in this track I don’t think it’s possible to use. It’s difficult because the [desired] temperature of the brake disk is not that high and [if it were to get too high] you can risk it not braking.
"I think we will use the smaller one. But we will decide. Let’s see if we can do something. I really hope we don’t have the same feeling as we had in the last races and I will try to be competitive like I know I can be here."
Bagnaia has claimed three successive victories at Mugello, but insisted that championship leader and Ducati team-mate Marc Marquez remained the "man to beat" in Italy.
Pecco: "I think it’s a very good weekend for us because it’s the Mugello GP. I know everything [about the track] perfectly. I know that I’m competitive here.
"At this moment it’s true that in Aragon we made a step forward. I was feeling a bit better.
"But we know perfectly how Marc [Marquez] is competitive right now. He’s the man to beat and we just need to improve during the weekend to try and at least fight for a win."
When asked how significant Mugello and Assen were for his championship chances, Bagnaia added: "Knowing these two tracks perfectly and knowing that I am competitive in these two tracks is a good place to understand the potential of our bike.
"If I can’t be competitive like I know here, then it could be a problem [for the championship]."
